Scotia Households

Scotia Households is a new feature that allows customers to connect with family members who might be impacted by each other’s financial decisions (for example: children away at university).​

Note: Members of your household will not have access to your financial transactions or banking information at any time.

Being part of a Scotia Household allows the bank to offer holistic advice and solutions to assist you in achieving your financial goals.

There are two roles in a Scotia Household:

• The host (the person who creates the household) is responsible for household administration like offering the unique 8-digit household code, editing the relationship category of members, removal of members, assigning a new host
• Members can join using the household code provided by the host (joining requests must be approved by the host for security reasons) and/or leave a household

You can only be a host or member of one household at a time. To join another household, you must leave your current household and join the new one only after waiting 7 calendar days.

All changes in a household will be communicated by email or text message. If there is no email address attached to your Scotiabank account, we'll use the mobile phone number on file. If both are unavailable, we will not be able to communicate changes to your household.

Yes, our advisors can assist with creating or joining a household. If you are new to Scotiabank, please be sure to bring two pieces of ID, proof of address, and the 8-digit household code from your host to the appointment, and let the advisor know you’d like to join a Scotia Household.

Yes, family members do not need to have a Scotiabank account to join a Scotia Household. However, if you are not yet a Scotiabank customer you must visit a Scotiabank branch to be able to join a household.

Information about your accounts, balances, or financial information is not shared between the Scotia Household host and/or other household members.  

Hosts can view members' full names, the date they joined the household, and are notified of new requests to join the household.

Members can only access the host’s full name and are notified whenever the host makes a change to the household.

Names and anonymous combined financial information may be shared with other members for the purposes of offering and operating a household. If your household is a small, it may be possible for a member to infer the approximate holdings of another member.

Yes, as a host or member you can leave your household through the Scotia mobile app, online, or by visiting a Scotiabank branch at any time.

There is no limit to how many people can join your Scotia Household. However, offers may be limited to a certain number of members.

Of course. You can edit your household name anytime by accessing your Household profile and selecting Settings. 

A minor is anyone under the age of 19. Minors can be added to any Scotia Household if the host of the household is the legal guardian or parent of the minor.  

If the minor has access to online banking, they can join digitally (using the mobile app or online), or by visiting Scotia branches with their legal guardian or parent. The advisor who assists will ask for the legal guardian or parent’s consent allowing the minor to join the household.
