Whether you’re visiting the U.S. or shopping online in U.S. dollars, you can use your Scotiabank U.S. Dollar Visa Card without worrying about foreign currency conversion fees on U.S. dollar purchases. Transactions made in any currency other than U.S. dollars will still be subject to the foreign currency conversion fees that apply to your Scotiabank U.S. Dollar Visa Card.3

Most new purchases made with your card are protected against theft, loss, or damage for 90 days from the purchase date.4
Plus, when you charge the full cost of most items to your card, extended warranty coverage can double the original manufacturer’s warranty for up to one year.
Items covered by a manufacturer’s warranty repair services of five years or more must be registered within the first year of purchase.
Coverage is limited to the lesser of the repair or replacement cost not exceeding the purchase price charged to the Account and is in excess of any other insurance coverage.4

When you make a purchase or cash advance in a foreign currency other than your credit card’s, you may be charged a foreign currency conversion fee in addition to the exchange rate that applies. Foreign currency transactions can occur online or outside of Canada, depending upon your card's currency.
Note: If you have a Scotiabank U.S. Dollar credit card account, transactions are processed in U.S. Dollars on your account.

To see if foreign currency conversion fees apply to your card, you can review your Credit Agreement and the disclosure statement for your credit card account. You may also want to check if one of our Scotiabank credit cards with no foreign currency conversion works for you.
Select either U.S. dollars or Canadian dollars after you enter the amount you would like to transfer. You can select the calculate button to convert both currencies before you complete your transfer.

To activate a Visa or American Express card:
- Activate online: follow the steps on our online activation page
- Make an in-store purchase: insert your card and enter your PIN (check the sticker on your card for eligibility)
For Mastercard:
- Activate on the phone: call 1-866-583-6289
Once activated, you can use your card right away.
To add a supplementary card to your credit card account:
- From your Accounts page, select your credit card account
- Select Additional Services
- Select Add Supplementary Cards and follow the instructions
