KONEK is a new secure, convenient, and flexible digital payment solution that allows consumers to checkout from a participating merchant’s application or website and pay online directly from your list of eligible personal Scotiabank bank accounts or using your eligible Scotiabank personal debit card or credit card. KONEK is currently available at participating merchants in Canada, and more are being added. Keep checking KONEK.ca for an updated list of participating merchants.

The Interac Direct service is a new online payment option with participating merchants in Canada available through the KONEK solution which allows consumers to pay for their online purchases at participating merchants directly from their eligible accounts such as chequing, savings and lines of credit through their participating financial institution. KONEK provides a simple and easy payment experience. The first time you use KONEK, you simply select KONEK at checkout and select Scotiabank (a participating financial institution) from a drop-down list and create a KONEK profile. Then you sign into your online banking with Scotiabank, authenticate yourself using your online banking credentials to sign-in and provide your consent to share information with KONEK (as described in the Scotiabank Privacy Agreement and through the KONEK terms and conditions) and pick your preferred payment method(s) from the eligible list to complete your purchase. When you provide your online banking credentials, Scotiabank verifies your identity; shares your full name, address and phone number to allow you to create a KONEK account if you want; and your consent is recorded for online payments.

The next time you choose KONEK, your registered default (preferred) payment information is saved to your profile with KONEK, so you simply select and pay.

You will continue to earn Scene+ points or cash back at the current rate on eligible credit card and Visa Debit cards purchases as you normally would. You will not earn Scene+ points when using Interac Direct as the purchases are through a bank account and not a physical card. There are no additional fees to use KONEK to make a payment using your eligible Scotiabank payment card. In some cases, merchants may have surcharges or related fees associated with paying for your online purchases. If you have any questions regarding any merchant fees/surcharges associated with using KONEK, please contact the merchant directly.

For bank accounts or credit card related fees (such as transaction-based or account fees) that might be associated with the accounts you hold with your financial institution, please contact your financial institution for information.

Using KONEK does not change any zero liability protection you have on your bank account, debit card, credit card or line of credit access card for unauthorized transactions

Zero liability for unauthorized transactions will still apply when you use  KONEK.

In all cases, you are required to keep your account and PIN or passwords safe and secure – as set out in your agreements for your bank account and cards with us.  And remember never to share your account information or PIN/password with a third party.

The KONEK payment solution keeps your data safe by using your financial institution’s secure authentication and payment consent protocols. KONEK does not store any information about your VISA debit card, VISA credit card or your chequing account, savings account or line of credit account.
