How We Protect YouWe take many steps to ensure your online banking security
At Scotiabank, we're committed to keeping your accounts and financial information safe and secure, from the moment you sign on to Scotia OnLine to the time you sign out.
As part of this commitment, we have instituted a number of security measures to help ensure the integrity of your transactions and your account information.
We will fully reimburse you in the unlikely event that you suffer direct financial losses due to unauthorized activity1 in your accounts through Scotia OnLine Financial Services2 or through Mobile Banking, provided you have met your security responsibilities.
Industry standard encryption ensures that your information passes between your personal computer and the Bank's computers securely, preventing others from being able to read or tamper with your account activity.
Firewalls and Monitoring
Our firewalls and monitoring systems prevent unauthorized access to our internal systems and maintain the safety of your information.
Securely save your ScotiaCard number on your computer so you don’t need to enter this information each time you sign-on. Your card number is stored in encrypted and masked formats so that nobody else can read it. (Not recommended if you are using a public access computer or share a computer with other people.)
If you're away from Scotia OnLine for more than 10 minutes an interruption to the Scotia OnLine session occurs. (A time-out extension option is available for Scotia OnLine Brokerage customers.) You then need to sign back into Scotia OnLine with your password.
As an extra level of security protection we display the date and time of your last online visit whenever you login to Scotia OnLine.
Protect your account numbers from “shoulder surfers” when you’re banking. Masking partially replaces the numbers in your account number with asterisks, so when you look at it on your screen and on print outs you can't see the full number.
Brokerage Trading access code
You can add an extra layer of security to your online brokerage session. Simply set up a secondary password to complete any brokerage transactions.
McAfee Security Software
All Scotia OnLine customers have access to McAfee AntiVirus software for free3 for the first 12 months.
"Unauthorized activity" means a transaction that was carried out in your Scotiabank account through Scotia OnLine without your permission, authorization or knowledge and where it can be established that you are a victim of fraud, theft or coercion.
"Accounts" include all accounts that are accessible through Scotia OnLine.
