- Mexico’s retail and wholesale sectors show post mixed data in June
According to INEGI’s Monthly Survey of Commercial Enterprises (EMEC), commercial activity in Mexico showed mixed performance in June (chart 1). Based on original figures and in real annual terms, wholesale trade revenues increased 14.7% year over year while retail trade revenues grew 2.7%.
At the sector level, the strongest increases were observed in agricultural and forestry raw materials within wholesale trade (22.4%), as well as pharmaceutical products (15.8%); in retail trade, internet sales (23.3%) and household goods (10.3%) stood out.
On the labour front, employment continues to show weakness: in wholesale trade, employed personnel fell by 0.9% (though wages rose 5.2%), while in retail trade jobs declined by 0.5% and average wages rose 1.6%.
