Imagine being five years old and being obsessed over how the world works. Imagine being told “you’re here to do what everyone else does,” and “do not ask any questions about how we live.” Imagine growing up, and realizing you are here for a bigger purpose; you are here to be your best self, and to inspire others to do the same.

Imagine wanting to bring your purpose to life, but there was no way to do so….

The good news is there is one organization which is committed to helping all women live out their purpose. From their Boutique experience to their BIPOC Youth Cohort, Dress for Success Toronto empowered me to live my purpose, and to be unapologetic about it. In a world where women of all walks of life are oppressed, Dress for Success Toronto encourages women to come as they are.

My journey with them started on a Tuesday night at 12:01 am when I applied to participate in their very first BIPOC Youth Cohort. As a participant, I learned how to harness my passion for life so that I could maximize my potential, and help others do the same. I found a safe space full of other women like me, and together, we learned how to break barriers that were in place for us, from physical appearance to unfair stereotypes. I then went on to work as a Youth Council Member for their Youth Employment Summit, where I created a play credit card station to help women overcome their self-esteem issues at a psychological level. Finally, at their annual “Beyond the Suit” fundraiser, I paid homage to DFST by helping them raise over $10,000. To fund their programs and services to women.

Giving to Dress for Success Toronto means that I follow my years-long purpose of empowering women. I strongly believe that an empowered woman is a powerful woman, and a powerful woman knows that what they create for them, no one can take from them, whether it be their knowledge, ideas, or skillset.
