Profile
Shannon McGinnis was appointed Chief Risk Officer in December 2025. In this role, she is responsible for the Bank’s global management of risk.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Executive Vice President and Deputy Chief Risk Officer, where she led Scotiabank’s Retail, Commercial and Small Business credit risk teams globally, with oversight of credit practices and procedures for these portfolios. With over two decades of senior leadership experience in Risk Management, Commercial and Retail business lines, and Internal Audit, Shannon has deep end-to-end expertise across all key areas of Risk and is a respected and trusted leader in the industry.
As a champion for inclusion, Shannon is an advocate for women in leadership and people with disabilities, chairing various employee resource groups and committees in her career.
She is a member of the Board for KidSport Ontario and previously served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Children’s Aid Foundation and the Global Risk Institute's Sustainable Finance Advisory Committee.
Shannon holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University's School of Business and Economics, a Master of Business Administration from York University's Schulich School of Business and has completed the RMA/Wharton Advanced Risk Management Program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
