- Have an Open Mind. Being open to new ideas and methods helps you to recognize that tasks can be successfully accomplished in different ways and allows you to learn from others. Having an open mind and supporting diverse ideas contributes to a positive work environment and helps our team continuously put forth new innovative ideas.
- Build Your Network. Relationship building is critical to getting things done as a Project Manager! As our team works with many different groups across the Bank, our Project Managers are provided with vast opportunities to build their internal network. To be successful, it is crucial to build strong relationships with others and foster those relationships over time.
- Continuously Learn & Stay Curious. As a technology Project Manager, there are always new things to learn! The most successful Project Managers seek out learning opportunities, are inquisitive, and leverage what they’ve learned by applying it to projects or processes.
- Understand the Strategy. Truly understanding the reason behind a project or initiative will unlock the wisdom needed for key decisions on your project. Successful Project Managers ask meaningful questions to uncover the true needs of our business partners and use these insights to fuel the decisions behind their solutions.
- Know Your Numbers. Project Managers must always be prepared to discuss the quantitative details of their projects with their stakeholders. This can include financials, milestones, and key performance indicators (KPIs)! To be successful, it is important to not only know these numbers but understand how they can inform future decisions.
- Ensure Stakeholder Buy-In. If your key stakeholders are not on board with your initiative, you’ll be in for a long and bumpy ride! You will need stakeholder support to drive true organizational change, so getting their buy-in is essential. Great Project Managers work to uncover any concerns from their stakeholders and communicate their objectives in a way that they understand the positive impact the project will have on their business.
- Be Gracious. Regularly recognize your team members and give credit where credit is due! Great Project Managers are passionate about acknowledging and rewarding the hard work of their colleagues. The few minutes spent writing an email to show your appreciation are well worth it to drive morale and increase engagement across the team.
- Have fun! Although our Project Managers work hard, they enjoy collaborating with each other on new challenges and working with other equally passionate individuals. Successful Project Managers love what they do and recognize the importance of having fun along the way!
