Stephen Bagnarol

Executive Vice President, Canadian Business Banking

Stephen Bagnarol was appointed Executive Vice President of Canadian Business Banking on May 1, 2021. In this role, he is responsible for setting the strategy for the Canadian Business Bank, focusing on key growth opportunities and enhancing client relationships.

Stephen joined Scotiabank in 1998 as part of the International Associate Development Program, working in both Commercial Banking and Global Risk Management. Upon graduation from the program, he accepted his first international assignment in Mexico, where he held progressively senior roles in Corporate Banking, including Head of Real Estate Banking. In 2005, Stephen relocated to New York, USA as Managing Director, Derivatives, Capital Markets. He was appointed Vice President & Country Head in Panama in 2008, Senior Vice President, Wholesale Banking in Peru in 2011 and, in 2017, Senior Vice President & Head of Caribbean South & East.

Stephen holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto and is a CFA Charter holder.

Miguel Barrieras

Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution 

Miguel was appointed Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution at Scotiabank in December 2016. Miguel brings over 25 years of global experience in financial services and has a strong track record of managing sales and driving strong results.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Miguel held progressively senior roles at HSBC as Senior Vice President and National Head of Business Banking in Canada, Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking in France and Mexico, and Global Head of Strategy & Planning, Global Commercial Banking at HSBC’s headquarters in London.

Miguel holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Economics Diploma from Laval University. He also earned the distinction of Gold Medalist and Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers’ Professional Banking Program.

Daryl Dunn

Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution

Daryl was appointed Senior Vice President, Commercial Distribution at Scotiabank in January 2020. In this role, he has responsibility for Commercial Distribution across Ontario and Western Canada. Daryl brings over 30 years of experience with Scotiabank in both Commercial and Retail banking. Responsible for the development and execution of strategic objectives while creating a workplace of pride in driving an exceptional customer experience.

Daryl joined Scotiabank in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1989 on a management training program. He has held roles of increasing responsibility primarily across Western Canada including:  Branch Manager Calgary Main Branch, Director & Group Lead Commercial Banking Central & Southern Alberta, Vice President Retail Banking South Manitoba & N.W. Ontario, and Vice President & Head Commercial Banking British Columbia & Yukon Region. Daryl holds an MBA from Dalhousie University and lives in Vancouver with his wife Monita.

David Daum

Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking

David Daum is Senior Vice President in Scotiabank’s Canadian Commercial Bank. He joined Scotiabank in 1994 and has held increasingly senior positions over the last 24 years.

Since 2009, David has been in the Commercial Bank with responsibilities for a variety of business areas including Real Estate Banking, Roynat Capital, Private Equity Sponsorship, Asset Based Lending and National Accounts. He is a member of the Commercial Bank’s Senior Management team and participates in developing and executing strategies for the group.

Prior to joining the Commercial Bank, David worked with Global Risk Management in a variety of functions including as Senior Vice President in Corporate and Real Estate Credit, as well as in a variety of roles in the Special Accounts Management group.

Prior to joining the Bank, David worked for Ernst and Young. He holds both a CA and CBV designation.

 

Matt Tedford

Senior Vice President & Head, Roynat Capital

Matt was appointed Senior Vice President & Head, Roynat Capital, in November 2018. In this role, he has national responsibility for Roynat Distribution and Equity across our network of Canadian offices. Matt brings over 20 years’ experience of complex transaction experience and has a strong track record of managing people and delivering results.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Matt held a series of increasingly progressive roles at KPMG LLP (Canada & Americas). In his most recent role, Matt was Head of Deal Advisory, Americas, and was responsible for the growth and development of KPMG’s Deal Advisory business in Central and South America, including leadership selection and development. At the same time, Matt was the Global Lead Partner for a major public pension plan relationship, managing more than 70 KPMG partners in 10 countries.

He holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and is a Certified Professional Accountant.

He and his wife, Liz, have three sons.

John Hiscock

Senior Vice President, Automotive Finance

John Hiscock is a 30-year auto finance veteran and is currently Senior Vice President of Automotive Finance at Scotiabank. In his role, Hiscock is responsible for the execution of the Canadian auto lender’s strategic course, with a focus on enhancing the customer experience for dealers and consumers and working closely with partner OEM’s to support their sales and marketing programs throughout the Canadian dealer network.

Hiscock first joined Scotiabank’s auto finance unit ten years ago, where he worked in various leadership positions, including Director of Sales and Client Relationships at the Ontario Dealer Finance Center, Vice President Operations, Finance, Systems & Strategic Projects, and most recently as Vice President Scotia Dealer Advantage Inc.

Prior to Scotiabank, he served more than 20 years in various assignments with Ford Credit Canada Limited. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.

Islay McGlynn

Senior Vice President, Canadian Business Banking

Islay is currently a Senior Vice President in Canadian Business Banking, responsible for the Healthcare & Professional Specialists team within Specialty Business Banking. In addition, Islay provides leadership and oversight of specific philanthropic commitments and corporate governance work, as well as the Bank’s Fine Arts & Corporate History programs. Previously, she held the role of SVP, Executive Support, Office of the CEO.  

Islay began her career with Scotiabank in 1989 and has had progressively more senior positions within the Retail, Small Business, and Commercial Banking business lines along with roles in Global Risk Management, Human Resources and Operations.

Islay is the Chair of the Supervisory Board for Maduro & Curiel’s Bank based in Curaçao, a Director on the Toronto Rehab Foundation Board, and the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Dalhousie University MBA program.

Islay has a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Guelph, an MBA from McGill University, and a Master of Information Studies from University of Toronto. She also recently qualified for the Institute of Corporate Directors, Director designation (ICD.D).

She is married and lives in Toronto.

David Rozin

Vice President & Head of Roynat/Scotiabank’s Technology & Innovation Banking group

David Rozin is the Vice President & Head of Roynat/Scotiabank’s Technology & Innovation Banking group overseeing a national team focused on supporting Technology companies of all stages, including venture. For over a decade Mr. Rozin has been keenly focused on the Technology sector, working with some of Canada’s most successful innovators and investors. Over this time, Mr. Rozin has developed deep subject matter expertise to support the unique financial needs of Technology entrepreneurs, spanning all life stages and sectors, including Clean Technology. 

Mr. Rozin has over 20 years of experience in Financial Services with roles across Strategy, Finance and Commercial banking and holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto) and earned a BA in Economics from Concordia University in Montreal.

Janice Holzscherer

Vice President & National Head of Agriculture

In the role of Vice President and National Head of Agriculture, Janice is responsible for the overall strategic positioning, growth and management of the National Agriculture team across Canada. She was appointed to this position in August 2016.

Janice joined Commercial Banking at Scotiabank in 2007 and has held progressively senior roles within the Canadian Bank in Toronto, Kitchener Waterloo and Listowel, Ontario. Prior to Scotiabank, Janice held senior positions in the investment industry. Janice holds a CFA, a Bachelor of Economics and History (Honours) from Trinity College, University of Toronto.

Janice has a passion for agriculture and is an avid equestrian. She resides on a farm in SW Ontario with her husband and they have three children all of whom are attending post-secondary education. 

Frank Ottavino

Senior Vice President, Real Estate Banking

Frank Ottavino is Senior Vice President in Canadian Business Banking, where he is responsible for leading the Real Estate Banking, Private Equity Sponsorship and Asset Based Lending businesses. 

Frank joined Scotiabank in 1998 and has held increasingly senior roles in retail and commercial banking. In 2003, he joined Global Banking & Markets in the New York City office before returning to Toronto in 2011. In his most recent role, Frank was Managing Director and Head of the Canadian Real Estate Corporate Banking team. 

Frank has an MBA from the University of Windsor and a BBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business. Outside of work, Frank enjoys travelling with his wife and two daughters.

Sean Albert 

Regional Senior Vice President, Toronto Region 

Sean Albert, Regional Senior Vice President for Toronto Region since March 2018, joined Scotiabank in October 2005 and has since held progressively senior roles in International Banking including Director, International Banking Mergers and Acquisitions and Vice-President of Treasury and Capital Markets where he launched the Caribbean’s first Merchant Banking Unit. Additionally, he held senior positions in Trinidad & Tobago as Vice- President of Capital Markets and Head of Corporate and Commercial Banking, Treasury, and the Capital Markets Team.

In 2011, prior to arriving in the Bahamas, Sean was appointed Managing Director, Caribbean East where he led Scotiabank’s operations in nine countries – Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados (as Country Manager), Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Vincent & The Grenadines.

In November 2013, Sean was appointed Managing Director and Country Head at Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited. He was on the board of directors of Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited, Scotiabank Caribbean Holdings, Barbados and Bank of Nova Scotia International (BNSI) Ltd.

Appointed in 2020, Sean currently sits on the Scotiabank Global Diversity & Inclusion Council.

He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Economics, both from the University of the West Indies, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Sean and his wife, Marsha, have two children.

Ravina Bains

Vice President Payments and Cash Management, Leasing & Wealth Partnerships

In the role of Vice President Payments and Cash Management, Leasing & Wealth Partnerships, Ravina Bains oversees a national team focused on supporting the cash management and equipment financing needs of Business Banking clients across Canada. She also serves as a Wealth Advisory Board Member for the Scotiabank Women Initiative.

Ravina joined Scotiabank in 2016 and has held progressively senior roles within Canadian Banking and Scotia Wealth Management. Prior to Scotiabank Ravina held senior positions in the Government of Canada and the non-profit sector. She is active in her community and serves as a board member for the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Hockey Canada Foundation and as Vice Chair of TVO.  Ravina holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of British Columbia and an M.Sc. in Law from the University of Oxford, where she studied as a CN Scholar.
