What is Android Pay and how can I use it?

Android Pay allows you to make in-store, online, and in-app purchases using an eligible Android device.

Add your ScotiaCard® debit card, Scotiabank Visa card, and Prepaid Card to pay for goods and services at merchants that accept contactless payments. Make in-app purchases on your eligible Android smartphone wherever you see the “Android Pay” icon at the online checkout page.

Which devices can I use Android Pay with?

Any Android smartphones and tablets running Kit Kat 4.4 and above. To make in-store payments, your phone also needs to support NFC (Near Field Communication). To check for NFC, look for it in your phone’s Settings app. You can make in-app payments even if your phone does not have HCE.

What do I need to use Android Pay?
  • An Android smartphone running operating system 4.4 (Kit Kat) or higher
  • An eligible Scotiabank ScotiaCard® debit card, Scotiabank Visa card, or Prepaid Card
How do I set up a Scotiabank payment card with Android Pay?

Android Pay is ready to use after adding an eligible Scotiabank payment card to Android Pay.

1. Download the Android Pay app from the Google Play store.

2. Open the Android Pay app and follow the instructional prompts to add your ScotiaCard® debit card, Scotiabank Visa card, or Prepaid Card.


  • To add a Scotiabank payment card on an eligible Android Smartphone:
    • Open the wallet app on the Android device
    • Tap the plus sign in the lower corner
    • Select ‘Add a Credit or Debit Card’
    • Follow the instructional prompts
How much does it cost to use Android Pay?

There is no cost to register a Scotiabank payment card in Android Pay. Standard account level and card account fees still apply. Wireless carrier data and messaging charges still apply.

Where can I use Android Pay?
  • Android Pay can be used in-store to make payments at participating merchants that accept contactless-enabled payments. Just look for the following logo:
  • Android Pay can be used on your smartphone to make in-app purchases or payments at participating online merchants that accept Android Pay, anywhere you see the following logo at checkout:
How do I make a Scotiabank payment card my default card in Android Pay?
  • The first card that is added to Android Pay will automatically become the default payment card. To edit the default card please review the following:
    • On the eligible Android Smartphone choose the Scotiabank payment card the customer would like to select as default and Tap the card
    • Tap “set as default card”.
How many cards (debit and/or credit) can I add to each device?

There are no restrictions on the number of cards you can add to Android Pay.

How do I delete or suspend my card in Android Pay?

If you believe the Scotiabank payment card information you used for Android Pay has been stolen or compromised, please call Scotiabank immediately at 1-844-230-0721.

Are my purchases protected against fraud?
  • Your Scotiabank payment card purchases through Android Pay are protected against unauthorized transactions with Visa's Zero Liability Policy, and Interac Zero Liability Policy.
    • Scotiabank payment card information is never shared with Android or the merchant
