Maria Theofilaktidis is Executive Vice President, Chief Compliance and Regulatory Officer, with responsibility for the implementation of an enterprise-wide strategy for effectively managing compliance risk across the Scotiabank group, aligned with corporate strategies and regulatory requirements.
Previous to this position Maria was Executive Vice President, Retail Distribution, Canadian Banking, responsible for defining and implementing the strategic direction, goals and execution of key initiatives for Retail and Small Business Distribution in Canada.
Since joining Scotiabank in 2002, Maria has held various positions including Senior Vice President of Retail, Small Business & Wealth Management, Senior Vice President and Chief Accountant, Vice President, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Vice President, Capital Management, and Vice President, Professional Practice and Executive Office Audit.
Maria is a strong advocate for Diversity and Inclusion. She is also the Executive Champion for Women at Scotiabank.
She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant. She completed her Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting at the University of The Witwatersrand, South Africa, and gained significant financial experience with KPMG’s National Office and Financial Services and Insurance Practices in Canada and South Africa.
She is a proud Greek-Cypriot South African Canadian who is married with three wonderful children.
