Maia-Mari Sutnik is Curator, Photography- Special Projects, at the Art Gallery of Ontario, where she has developed the AGO’s program of photography exhibitions and its permanent collection of photographs since 1979. Among the more than 70 exhibitions she has coordinated and/or curated are; Robert Frank: New Works (with NFB’s Robert Frank Retrospective), E. Haanel Cassidy: Photographs 1933-1945; Responding to Photography: Selected Works from Private Toronto Collections; John Gutmann; Charles Macnamara and M. O. Hammond: Pictorial Expressions in Landscape & Portraits; Michel Lambeth Photographer; Pop Photographica: Photography’s Objects of Everyday Life, 1842-1969; William Wegman…Works on Paper & Video 1970-2001; Eisenstaedt, Two Visions (in conjunction with Ansel Adams, from Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), Edward Burtynsky on Site: Transformation AGO, and Beautiful Fictions: Contemporary Photographs ( with David Moos, co-curator), and served as one of the Canadian selectors and curator of AGO/Aeroplan, The Grange Prize in 2009. She is currently working on exhibitions of Eadweard Muybridge (with Marta Braun, guest curator) and the legendary Czech photographer Josef Sudek.

She has taught visual literacy courses at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and since 2005 has held adjunct positions at Ryerson University, Image Arts Graduate Program - Photographic Preservation and Collections Management. She has served on photographic arts organizations, and contributed to many publications including, Artnews/Wadsworth Atheneum; artmagazine; Canadian Collector, MUSE; Photocommunique, among others, and to the international
