Designed with privacy in mind

Our mobile banking services rely on high-security mechanisms to protect your privacy and financial information from login to logout. Transactions are processed behind our firewalls, 128bit encryption is used throughout and user identity is verified through multiple factors. We've also designed our interfaces keeping in mind that you use your device in public places. Your account and credit card numbers are never displayed, account nicknames are available and sessions are automatically timed out.

Your collaboration matters

To benefit from our mobile security guarantee, you must respect the terms of our customer agreements. In particular:

Don't share or divulge your ScotiaCard number, security code or your mobile banking password including never writing this information down, never allowing your family or friends access to this information and never storing any of this information in a lockbox or wallet utility on your mobile device.

Notify us immediately in the event of loss, theft, misuse or compromise of your ScotiaCard, ScotiaCard number, mobile banking password or mobile device at (1-800-472-6842).

Use your wireless data connection when you are banking on the go and avoid defaulting to public wifi services on your smartphone, especially when you're transmitting sensitive information

Never respond to popups, emails or SMS requests that ask you to give personal information about yourself or your Scotiabank accounts. We will not send you unsolicited emails or SMS messages asking for your mobile banking password, ScotiaCard Personal Identification Number (PIN), credit card or account numbers, etc.

Prevent unauthorized access: Use a passcode to unlock your phone's screen. It's easy to do. Just check your user manual for instructions. Or you can search for a copy of your user's guide on your wireless carrier's website.

Regularly clear up your financial information: Take the time to delete your financial information by clearing text messages that use 88866. If you can access your cache, you can also clear your internet browsing history.

Do not forward personal text messages or account information sent to you by Scotiabank.

If it's too good to be true, beware

Provisioning: Our mobile services are provisioned by firewall protected servers or Apple's App store. If we make updates to our services, you will be notified when you launch our iPhone app:. We will never send you a text message asking you to download an update or a promotional app by clicking an enclosed link.

Not all apps are equal:Make sure you know and trust the creator of an app before downloading it to your mobile device. Some free utilities such as wallpapers, calendars and aggregation services have been know to install malware

How Does Mobile Banking Work?

What is mobile banking?
Mobile banking lets you bank anywhere, anytime using your mobile device. You can check your balances, move your money, pay your bills and more depending on what kind of device you use.

How do I get my mobile device to access the internet?
First, check with your carrier and see if your device is internet enabled. You might want to check and see that you have a data plan too. Once you confirm that your device is internet­enabled, simply launch your browser by clicking on the “web browsing icon”.

Can I access any of my bank accounts using mobile banking?
You can access any of your Day-to-Day and small business accounts, VISAs, and lines of credits. You can view the balances of your mortgage and brokerage accounts.

Can I use the same password for browser banking, my iPhone banking app and signing on to Scotia OnLine from my desktop?
Yes, you can. If you need a password, call 1-877-908-8866.

How do I save my ScotiaCard number on my mobile device so that I don't have to enter it each time I visit?
Depending on how you access mobile banking, your ScotiaCard number can be saved.

If you text GO to 88866 you will receive a personalized link that will automatically save your ScotiaCard after your first sign-on so you won't need to re-enter your card number.

If you visit scotiabank.com and enter mobile banking, simply select 'Remember my card number' and your card number will be saved for future visits.

How much does it cost to use mobile banking?
Scotiabank offers mobile banking at no charge. Standard wireless messaging and data charges apply. You will benefit from having a text messaging and/or data plan. If you are traveling, roaming charges will apply as usual, too. Please check with your carrier to find out which options best suit you.

Is mobile banking offered in French?

Why can't I complete all of the banking tasks available on Scotia OnLine on mobile banking?
For full access to Scotia OnLine type "scotiabank.com" into your address window and click on the "Full site" link at the bottom of the screen. From there, you will be able to sign on to Scotia OnLine.

Are InfoAlerts text messages the same as mobile banking?
InfoAlerts and text banking are different. InfoAlerts sends the notifications you have requested as a text message to your mobile, or by email. Mobile banking lets you view balances and account details, make transfers and pay bills anytime you want - just like online banking.

What if I lose or misplace my phone?
Please call your carrier immediately and have your device disabled.

My session timed out. What should I do?
If there is no activity for a period of time we will always log you out as a security measure. Simply login again to resume banking.

What is browser banking?
Browser banking is mobile banking that lets you bank anywhere, anytime using the browser or internet on your phone. If you can surf on your phone, you can check your balances, move your money, pay your bills and more.

What do I need to register for browser banking?
You need an internet-enabled mobile device (one you can surf the web on), a ScotiaCard, and a Scotia OnLine password.

Does browser banking work on all mobile phones?
Browser banking will work on your phone as long as your phone has internet access and you can conduct a secure (https) session.

Can I log into browser banking using my Scotiabank VISA card number?
You will need to use your ScotiaCard number to log into mobile banking.

What can I do with browser banking?
You can view your balances, account details, transfer money, make bill payments to any of your existing payees (bill payment companies) and send money via Western Union and Interac Email money transfer to any of your existing recipients. You can also view the balances on your mortgage or brokerage accounts.

Which accounts can I use for browser banking?
You can access any of your day-to-day and Small Business accounts, VISAs, and lines of credits. You can view the balances of your mortgages and brokerage accounts.

I received a link by texting GO but it doesn't work when I click it. What should I do?
Some phones cannot display clickable hyperlinks in text messages. In some cases, you may need to use a different command to launch your browser from such a link. If you are pressing "SEND" try pressing "OK" or "Select" instead, and vice-versa. In other cases, you will need to copy and paste the URL we sent you into your browser's address bar. Launch the URL from there, and you will be presented with the login page. Bookmark the link.

How do I bookmark the login page?
In most cases, bookmarking app ears as an option in the device’s Browser menu. Check your mobile's user manual.

I’m locked out of my browser banking. What should I do?
You can call our mobile help desk and a representative will help you reset your account: Mobile Help Desk 1-877-908-8866. Or you can wait and login at a later date.

Text banking

What is text banking?
Text banking lets you bank anywhere, anytime using text messages. If you can text on your phone, you can receive text messages containing your balances, last 5 transactions and more.

How much does text banking cost?
Scotiabank offers text banking at no charge. Standard wireless messaging charges apply. If you are travelling, roaming charges will apply as usual, too.

What do I need to register for text banking?
You need a mobile phone, a ScotiaCard number and Scotia OnLine password. Your wireless carrier must also support shortcodes. A text messaging plan is recommended as standard messaging charges do apply. Check with your wireless carrier to see which options best suit you.

How do I know if text banking will work on my device?
All mobile devices now support text messaging. Your carrier also needs to support short codes. By this, we mean that you must be able to send messages to Canadian text messaging programs using a 5-digit code. If you’re in doubt, give your carrier a call.

Do I need a password to use text banking?
You need your ScotiaCard number and Scotia OnLine password to register for text banking. Once registered, you will simply text your commands to 88866 and we will respond with your account information.

Which accounts can I use for text banking?
Text banking provides you with account information on accounts linked to your ScotiaCard – Chequing, Savings and VISA, These are same accounts you use when using your ScotiaCard to make a purchase and your main VISA.

What can I do with text banking?
By sending a text command to 88866 you can view your account balances, account details and the last 5 transactions on your accounts.

I texted a question to 88866. I got a response saying you did not recognize my request?
Text banking can only respond to one of Scotiabank’s commands. For help, call 1-877-908-8866 or text HELP to 88866 to get a list of text banking commands

Can you provide me with a list of text banking commands?

How long will it take to get a text banking response?
Speed can vary depending on your wireless connection. An answer is usually received within a few seconds of sending a text command.

How does Scotiabank know that it’s me requesting the information if everyone uses the same shortcode?
Once you are registered for text banking, we will identify you by your phone number.

How can I deregister from text banking?
Text STOP to 88866. You'll receive a text confirming that you have been deregistered.

If I deregister my text banking will it stop my InfoAlerts too?
Texting STOP to 88866 will only deregister you from text banking.

What's the fastest way to use text banking?
You can either save 88866 to your contact list or reply to a text banking message we have already sent you from our 88866 shortcode.

Can multiple people use the same app securely?
Yes. You can save multiple ScotiaCards on our Android and iPhone apps. Individual users must authenticate with their personal Scotia OnLine password. Do not share this information or store it on your phone. If someone finds out your Scotia OnLine password, immediately call 1-800-4SCOTIA and ask for a reset.

How can I access Scotia OnLine's full site on my mobile?
Go to scotiabank.com on your mobile browser. You will be served a mobile version of our home site. Scroll to the bottom, where you'll see a Full Site link. Select it.

I'm locked out of the app. What do I do?
If you tried logging in and failed too many times, wait 30 minutes and try again. If you answered ScotiaVerify questions incorrectly and this led to a lock-out, call 1-800-4SCOTIA and ask for a ScotiaVerify reset.

How can I access the full Scotia OnLine website?
Select the Scotia OnLine button at the bottom of the Scotia Mobile Banking app's login page.
