Renowned for his athletic ability, leadership qualities, charitable work and undoubtedly, Canada’s most famous moustache, legendary hockey player Lanny McDonald can now add Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame inductee to his lengthy list of achievements.

“Canada’s Hockey Bank is thrilled to congratulate Lanny on this well-deserved honour!” says John Doig, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Scotiabank. “He was a remarkable leader throughout his NHL career. His ability to inspire the best in people on and off the ice is why we’re more proud than ever to call Lanny a Scotiabank Teammate, especially as we prepare for him to join us again for our third tour with Project North.”

Project North is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children who live in Canada’s north. Lanny and a team of partner organizations will travel over 8,300 kilometres in four days to visit eight Nunavut communities beginning April 26. In the spirit of celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, 150 bags of new hockey equipment and 150 educational tablets provided by Rumie will be donated to young people in the communities they visit during the tour.

“Lanny’s participation in Project North signifies his deep commitment to helping young people unlock their infinite potential and strengthen their communities in their own special way,” adds Doig. “He always draws a crowd everywhere he goes, but touching down with the iconic Stanley Cup and bags of new hockey equipment after being named to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, no one will want to miss the opportunity to be a part of this unique celebration of hockey.”
