Who are Canada’s Best Young Photographers? Introducing the Scotiabank New Generation Photography Award

By Diana Hart

Three young Canadian photographers will get to have their careers kick-started by a new photography award.

The New Generation Photography Award was created by Scotiabank and the Canadian Photography Institute (CPI) to inspire young photographers, helping them develop skills so that they can reach their infinite potential.

The winners will each receive $10,000 as well as the opportunity to collaborate with National Gallery of Canada curators on an exhibition of their work at the CPI PhotoLab in Ottawa next March.

“The idea behind the award is to give the means to up and coming young photographers, encouraging these communities of young creators,” Luce Lebart, Director of the CPI. “It’s an extraordinary opportunity as it provides visibility for these young artists, but also a mentor who will accompany them throughout this adventure, including the production, communication and validation of their work.”

The winners will be chosen by a jury of leading photography experts led by Lebart. This year’s jury members are:

“Scotiabank has a long history of supporting arts and culture in this great country of ours. We believe they enrich the lives of Canadians and allow us to look at life through a different lens,” said John Doig, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at Scotiabank. “The New Generation Photography Award will help build a community of young artists in Canada.”
