Enrol for direct deposit to get your Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) payment quicker.

Eligibility to enrol for direct deposits for CERB or CESB

To be eligible to enrol for CERB or CESB direct deposit with the Canada Revenue Agency you must have filed at least one income tax return in the past.

If you have never filed a Canadian tax return, you must first call 1-800-959-8281 to register your Social Insurance Number with the CRA. You will not be able to apply for CERB/CESB or set up direct deposit until you call and register your Social Insurance Number.

How direct deposit works?

Set up your eligible account for direct deposit from the comfort of your home and CERB or CESB payments from the CRA will be deposited directly to that account.

How does the direct deposit process work for CERB or CESB?

In order to receive CERB or CESB through direct deposit, you must do 2 things:

  1. Apply and be approved for CERB or CESB
  2. Set up direct deposit

  • Your Scotia OnLine or mobile banking app sign-in credentials 
  • A chequing or eligible savings account 
  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN), if it’s not already on file
