Profile
Dan Rees was appointed Group Head, Canadian Banking in June 2019. In this role, Dan leads our Personal and Commercial Banking and Insurance businesses in Canada.
Over the course of his career, Dan has developed a track record of success in driving results and building strong teams. He first joined Scotiabank in 2000 and has held a number of increasingly senior roles in Canadian Banking, Wealth Management, Global Banking and Markets, Global Risk Management and International Banking. He was, most recently, Group Head, Operations responsible for developing a bank-wide approach to efficiency and continuous improvement and for ensuring that key functional areas partner effectively with the business lines to improve our customer experience. Prior to that appointment, Senior Vice President, Leadership in Human Resources, responsible for recruiting and developing the most senior level talent at the Bank.
Dan graduated from Queen’s University with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Economics Degree. He also earned a Master’s of Science in Management from The London School of Economics.
Dan is a member of The Scotiabank Women Initiative Advisory Board. He was the Honorary Chair for the 2018 Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and led Scotiabank’s ride teams from 2017-2019.
Dan is married to Kelly. They live in Toronto and have one son and two daughters.
