My name is Allison and I'm finishing my MBA at Wilfrid Laurier University. I'm a Communications Coordinator here in the HR department.
Anything that's going on here - any kind of events, any kind of message they want to send out to employees I'll put together a promotion, an invitation, a poster, or post it on the plasma screen so that everyone is aware of what's going on. I work with various people within HR and help them with projects or different tasks. They often come to me for advice or ideas - I'm known as the creative one. What I enjoy most about my work is a chance to get creative and to use my own discretion. I may be given an idea of the outcome that needs to happen and where I go from there is up to me.
I gained a lot of transferable skills here. I've learned a lot of computer technology and software programs and had the chance to use them. I've been helping other employees learn the technologies that were so new to me in September and now I'm the expert.
A few years down the road I see myself in a marketing role - I'm not sure exactly what role, but I know that I don't want to ignore my undergrad degree in Environment. I'll hopefully keep that with me and explore how I can get involved in the CSR of any company I'm with. I initiated the Green Weekly Challenge here. Its kind of a reminder to employees about their part in Scotiabanks CSR goals. I'm challenging them to re-think their everyday behaviours.
I believe that Corporate Social Responsibility has a role in any business. Any role that I'd be within that business, I would hope to be able to contribute to that message.
