The Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Foundation was accorded charitable status by the Ministry of Finance in February 2008, and is responsible for managing a philanthropic program on behalf of the local Scotiabank Group.
The Patron of the Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Foundation is former First Lady of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Zalayhar Hassanali, who also functions at the Patron of the Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer Program.
The Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Foundation is also governed by a Board of Directors comprising of the following individuals:
The objectives of the Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Foundation are:
- To relieve poverty, deprivation and distress among economically disadvantaged persons and their dependents resident in Trinidad and Tobago either generally or individually through the provision of grants, goods or services.
- To foster public understanding in and education on health issues, conditions and diseases such as breast cancer, by the facilitation and participation in public initiatives such as screening clinics, testing, seminars and publications.
- To advance the education of pupils by providing and assisting in the provision of books and stationery supplies to schools and educational institutions, the upkeep and maintenance of schools and educational institutions and the funding of scholarships to the University of the West Indies for the benefit of the economically disadvantaged.
- To assist in the organization and provision of facilities, which will encourage and promote community participation in healthy recreation in particular for the benefit of young people to engage in sporting activities.
- To promote Trinidad and Tobago culture for the benefit of the public through the sponsorship of the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival and steel orchestras with no primary source of funding.
