Kiddy Cricket 2008
Scotiabanks support of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) helps to promote, develop and celebrate a sport that is an integral part of the Caribbean history, culture and identity, and plays an important role in future development of the region.
The Scotiabank sponsored Kiddy Cricket program was introduced to the West Indies in 2000 by the WICB. It is part of Scotiabanks investment in the youth of the Caribbean. The program aims to help primary school children gain and maintain an appreciation for cricket, the game that is deeply rooted in their West Indian heritage. In addition, it helps children develop positive values and good sportsmanship, and enhances the appeal of their education.
The program was formally opened on February 21st 2008 with all participating schools receiving their Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Kits as well as the Clarence goes to School teachers manual. Teachers were trained and returned to their schools in order to coach children about the game.
The Kiddy Cricket Skills Display was held during the luncheon interval on April 5th and 6th 2008 of the 2nd Test Match between West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Queens Park Oval. There were a total of 64 kids both boys and girls on both days demonstrating their skills in catching, throwing, fielding, running and also batting.
