Stéphane Aquin is Curator of Contemporary Art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where he has organised or participated in a number of exhibitions, among which Me and my Circumstance (Contemporary Mexican Art) (1999); Geneviève Cadieux (2000); Pipilotti Rist (2000), Alfred Hitchcock Fatal Coincidences (2000); Global Village The Sixties (2003);

Riopelle at the Hermitage (2006); Sound and Vision, ThePhotographic and Videographic Image in Contemporary Canadian Art (2006); Warhol Live, Music and Dance in the work of Andy Warhol (2009). He also initiated the museum's project series which under his guidance has shown over twenty exhibitions. In 2010, Canadian Art lauded his exhibition "A Global Warning: Scenes from a Planet under Pressure" as one of the best shows in Canada, and described Aquin as "a keen keeper of the art of the past decade." He has contributed essays to numerous publications and has acted as juror on numerous jurys and prizes. In 2008, he chaired the Sobey Art Award Jury. Prior to his current position at the MMFA, Aquin has worked as an art critic from 1992 to 1998. He has been teaching at Concordia University's M.F.A. Studio Arts program since 1996.
