First blind student from St. Lucia
Scotiabank St. Lucia created an opportunity for employment for Jessica Jacobie, a visually impaired young lady, through a summer job in the years 2001 and 2002. According to Jessica, that was when it occurred to her that a career in business was not only interesting, but also possible.
Ms. Jessica was awarded the SCOTIABANK SCHOLARSHIP that allowed her to enter the University of the West Indies- St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago, for the period representing 2004-2007.
On November 3, 2007, Jessica made Scotiabank proud, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Psychology and minor in Human Resource Management, becoming the first blind student to graduate from the UWI.
The story of Jessica Jacobie is one of courage and determination of a visually impaired young lady among us and Scotiabank is particularly pleased to have had the opportunity of contributing to this young lady realizing her dreams, in the face of what to most of us, would seem as a serious disadvantage.
