Scotiabank Contributes $250,000 to Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts

TORONTO, Jan. 13 /CNW/ - Scotiabank today announced it has made a $250,000 corporate contribution to the Canadian Red Cross' Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti and hope this donation will help alleviate some of the misfortune suffered during this difficult period," said Pat Minicucci, Senior Vice-President, International Banking, Caribbean, Scotiabank. "We are pleased to support the Red Cross in their efforts to provide this much needed assistance."

Scotiabank has operated in Haiti since 1972 and currently has 80 employees in four branches.
"We are very thankful that all of our employees are accounted for and safe," added Mr. Minicucci. "We will work around the clock to restore access to cash and accounts as soon as possible and expect to have three out of four branches in operation by the end of this week". To assist with relief efforts, Scotiabank is waiving wire transfer fees destined to Haiti.

Scotiabank is committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work, both in Canada and abroad. Recognized as a leader internationally and among Canadian corporations for its charitable donations and philanthropic activities, in 2009 the Bank provided about $39 million in sponsorships and donations to a variety of projects and initiatives, primarily in the areas of healthcare, education, social services and arts & culture.
