Community Involvement

The Scotiabank Jamaica Foundation has made a measurable impact in the lives of Jamaicans by supporting individuals, institutions, and communities through sustainable corporate social responsibility initiatives.

At Scotiabank Jamaica, our support of the communities we serve is an important part of the way we live, work, and do business. Through our network of branches across the island, we pride ourselves on maintaining an intimate relationship with our customers and their communities as we work to remove barriers to advancement and increase access to opportunities for disadvantaged groups.

Supporting Transformative Change 

Playing our part to encourage social change in Jamaica, Scotiabank contributed JM$10 million support Project STAR – a multi-agency initiative aimed at reducing crime and violence in 20 of Jamaica’s high violence producing communities over the next 4 years.

Supporting Youth Development through Education 

ScotiaFoundation has long been an advocate for youth development through various educational initiatives. Our annual back-to-school giveback programme continues to assist parents of primary school students prepare for the new academic year.

Investing approximately $10 million to assist students this year, the Foundation provided much-needed support to more than 1200 grade six students enrolled in 15 primary schools across the island. 

 Supporting Access to Opportunity

The Scotia Foundation funded the JaMIN project aimed at providing music-based training, business and development opportunities for at-risk youth and young adults living in trench Town and surrounding communities.

Through partnership with the Jamaica Social Stock Exchange, the Foundation contributed $3 million to finance the project spearheaded by the Agency for Inner City Renewal (AIR). 

Protecting the Environment

On April 22, 2023 (Earth Day), in partnership with the Jamaica Environment Trust, the Scotiabank Jamaica Foundation worked with other corporate entities to clear garbage from the Sigarny beach in downtown, Kingston.

We also supported the national reforestation efforts and distributed 3,000 fruit and ornamental seedlings to customers through the branch network.
