What Drives a Scotia Volunteer. Share their passion!
Marie Miller - ScotiaSinger /Volunteer
I have been fortunate to benefit from the goodwill of others and strongly feel that I have a responsibility to reciprocate. Volunteering allows me to help others; it builds relationships; it fosters goodwill; it feels good!
As a member of the Scotia Singers, I have volunteered at Labour Day projects and at the Golden Age Home and participated in activities co-ordinated jointly by the Bank and the Cancer Society. I am also actively involved in volunteer activities at my Church and my Alma Mater and with The Dispute Resolution Foundation.
I would encourage other people to volunteer, as there is much to gain and nothing to lose! I am always excited about volunteering and feel blessed to be able to share my gifts and talents with others.
Janet Richards
I am inspired to be a volunteer because of my passion for helping the less fortunate. I love people, and I think it is important to work at building better communities and individuals. As a volunteer, my work to improve the image of my company gives me fulfillment and self-actualization.
The spirit of volunteerism drives to do work in various areas, including Education, Health, Youth and with the elderly. I would certainly encourage others to become volunteers as it helps you to feel very accomplished and successful.
Carol Blair
As a Scotiabank volunteer I have participated in the Jamaica Cancer Society Relay for Life, the Jamaica Heart Foundation and the Sigma Corporate Run. I also participate in other activities in my personal time. My love for people inspires me to volunteer. I have a passion for helping people in need. It brings instant gratification to see the smile on someone's face when you have helped them. In life, I have learned to be selfless and fulfill my Christian principles.
I would gladly encourage others to volunteer, as we often get too wrapped up in our own world. It is important that we spread love and kindness to others to help make our country a better place.
What others say about our Volunteers
Vilma MacDonald National Volunteer Coordinator ICC Cricket World Cup 2007
My first experience with the Scotiabank Volunteers occurred in March 2006, when Scotiabank hosted an event for Jamaicas former Prime Minister and Governor General. They were true volunteers; ready to do anything that was requested of them, and executed their tasks very efficiently.
Because of that experience, I was very happy to have Scotiabank on board once again to assist in the ICC Cricket World Cup. I must extend special commendations to Damion Todd, a Scotiabank Volunteer who before our volunteer website was set up properly, he took the initiative to go online and find a way to download the registration form
Damion was the first volunteer from Jamaica for the ICC Cricket World Cup! Since Damions registration, we have had several other Scotiabank Volunteers from various locations across Jamaica. I expect them all to perform to the highest standards!
Scotiabankers Volunteer for ICC World Cup Cricket
Over 30 Scotiabankers from Jamaica were selected as volunteers and given time off from their jobs to serve in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup being held across the Caribbean. The Bank, which is also a regional sponsor of the tournament, is the single corporate entity with the largest number of staff members working as volunteers serving at the matches.
The volunteers who are from various areas in the Bank, range from senior mangers to clerical staff were largely been assigned to work in area of administration, ushering, transportation and hospitality both the Greenfield and Sabina Park venues.
When we sent out the request for persons to sign up form as far back as October 2005, we received an very positive response from staff members. Over 100 persons replied, and these numbers were processed narrowing to the final 30 selected by the Local Organizing Committee, explained Joylene Griffiths Irving, leader of the volunteer initiative at Scotiabank.
