Our current offering includes the Multi Asset Growth (MAG) Fund, which seeks to preserve capital in falling markets and capture upside returns in rising markets. The MAG Fund aims to achieve a superior risk-return balance by capitalizing on active portfolio design and management that seeks to minimize exposure to market drawdowns.
With low correlation to traditional asset classes, the MAG Fund provides diversification benefits to an overall portfolio. The objective is to provide a stable return stream of cash +5% with minimal volatility for our clients.
Andrew Spence Vice President & Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Andrew joined the firm in 2014 and is responsible for the development and management of Liquid Alternative funds and investor solutions.
Prior to this, Andrew was a Managing Director at OMERS Capital Markets, where he developed and managed the Global Macro Portfolio and the Quantitative Investments program. He has also held senior roles at TD Securities and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where he was Managing Director, Global Head of Research, and Vice-President, Chief Economist respectively.
He holds an MPhil in Economics from the University of Bath, England. He is also a Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute and an ad hoc lecturer at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.
David Page Lead Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
David joined the firm in 2014. He focuses mainly on the portfolio’s fixed income and foreign exchange positions with particular attention to alpha and risk overlay opportunities.
With a tenure exceeding 25 years in financial markets, David has garnered extensive experience in proprietary trading and investment management. He was previously Principal on the Global Macro Alpha Portfolio at OMERS. Prior to that, he acted as Managing Director, Proprietary Trading, Rates Director for Deutsche Bank.
Nelson Chau, MBA Lead Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Nelson Chau joined the firm in 2014 as Lead Portfolio Manager and provides portfolio construction and risk allocation within the Liquid Alternatives team.
Nelson has more than 20 years of portfolio, risk management and derivatives experience. Prior to joining the Scotia team, Nelson worked at OMERS as Principal, Multi-Strategy Portfolio. Before that, he served as Head of Fixed Income at ING Investment Management and as Portfolio Manager, Fixed Income for the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
Nelson holds an MBA from Queen’s University and is a graduate from the University of California, Berkeley in the Financial Investment Technology Program. Nelson also has a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Waterloo.
Manos Sigalas, CFA Associate Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Manos joined the firm in 2015. He spends his time developing convex derivative strategies across asset classes and applying quantitative rigour through robust statistical analysis.
Previously, Manos was Associate Portfolio Manager on the Global Macro Alpha Portfolio team at OMERS Capital Markets, where he gained experience developing and implementing Global Macro investment strategies with a focus on cross asset options and volatility strategies.
Manos graduated from York University with a BA in Business Economics. He is a CFA charterholder and has completed Level I of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.
