Institutional Business Development
Jean-Pierre joined the firm in 2014. He supports the growth of Institutional Fixed Income by advocating and illustrating how the business meets the needs of institutional investors. He is also instrumental in bridging the gap between portfolio management teams and frontline distribution personnel.
Before Scotia, Jean-Pierre held the position of Vice-President, Fixed Income Sales at TD Securities. In that role, he strengthened key relationships with some of the largest and most recognized buy-side investing institutions in Canada.
Jean-Pierre is a CFA charterholder and holds a Master of Science in Administration from HEC Business School. He also has a Bachelor of Business and Administration degree from University of Quebec and Concordia University.
Romas Budd, MBA Vice President & Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Romas Budd has been with the firm and its predecessors since 1990. As the Lead Portfolio Manager of the Canadian Active Core strategy, Romas has developed a disciplined approach to fixed income investing. This approach has yielded long-term success through yield curve positioning, managed credit sector exposure, and strong security selection.
Before this position, Romas held the role of Managing Director, Fixed Income where he oversaw all fixed income mandates.
Romas earned his Honours B.Sc. from McMaster University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.
Michael McHugh Hons. BA, MA, CFA Vice President & Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Michael McHugh has been with the organization and its predecessors since 1996. As the Lead Portfolio Manager of the Canadian Low Volatility Fixed Income Strategy, Michael employs an investment philosophy that helps protect clients from material declines while generating long-term, risk-adjusted performance.
Michael launched his investment career in 1986 as an equity research analyst at Walwyn Stodgell Cochrane Murray. In 1989, he joined the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, where he managed private debt and equity portfolios. In 1993, Michael managed fixed-income portfolios for the Ontario Hospital Association Investment Management Inc.
Michael holds both an Honours BA and an MA in Economics. He is also a CFA charterholder.
Marc-André Gaudreau, CPA, CGA, CFA Vice President & Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Marc-André joined the organization in 2012. He manages a wide range of specialized fixed income credit strategies, including Investment Grade Credit, High Yield, Preferred Shares, Credit Spectrum, and Credit Absolute Returns.
Before joining the team, Marc-André held senior roles at a variety of Canadian asset management firms. He has been the Vice-President & Senior Portfolio Manager at Fiera Capital, Senior Vice President at Natcan and Senior Credit Risk Manager at National Bank of Canada.
Marc-André graduated from Université du Québec en Outaouais. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Finance. He also holds a number of designations, including Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant, and Chartered Financial Analyst.
Christine Horoyski, CPA, CA, CFA, MBA Vice President & Portfolio Manager, 1832 Asset Management L.P.
Christine has been with the firm and its predecessors since 2003. She is the Vice President and Lead Portfolio Manager for the Core Plus strategy.
She was also Vice President, Head of Fixed Income for a major insurance company. During her 10‐year tenure, Christine managed over $20 billion in fixed income assets on an active basis.
Christine holds an MBA from Windsor University and a BA in Economics from the University of Western Ontario. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
