After having managed for the Bank of Montreal (5 years) and Canada Permanent Trust (4 years), I entered the investment industry by joining Midland Doherty in Hamilton in 1981. Over the next 21 years I was a Branch Manager for Midland Doherty and Richardson Greenshields as well as President of Fidelity Brokerage Services in Boston. Formal accreditation's are: Professional Financial Planning certification, Partners, Directors and Senior Officers designation, Registered Options Principle, Registered Futures Principle and Canadian Securities Course.

Investment Philosophy and Process
Our Investment philosophy is based on a "core/satellite" process, which combines a larger "core" asset mix that is diversified and actively managed through an experienced wealth management program with a smaller component of our personal "satellite" investments. It is designed to earn a "relative" return from the core group and an "absolute" return from the satellite group. By combining the discipline and active investment supervision of the wealth management programs with our satellite investments, it will, in theory, result in a total return that exceeds the broad market and outperforms most active equity managers. The core of our process seeks to closely track a targeted benchmark at minimal cost, while our smaller satellite positions allows for an increased return on your investments with a minimum amount of risk and costs.
My Fixed Income investment style is mainly implemented in retirement accounts. We base the investment around a structured maturity ladder usually made up of Government of Canada stripped coupons. We do not invest in Corporate Bonds as they incur all the risks of common equities without the offsetting reward. Non Registered income is derived from T-Bills, cashable GIC’s, Government of Canada Bonds, Retractable Preferred shares, Income Trusts, and dividends from common shares, allowing us to deliver the level of income required with the lowest level of risk possible.

Service Approach
Our relationship with our clients starts with the development of a comprehensive lifestyle plan, which clearly identifies the client's desired lifestyle and our proposed way to achieve them. The basic plan covers insurance, tax and estate planning as well as the typical asset allocation and investment strategy.
We provide prospects and clients with an investment kit. This kit provides information about our investment team and answers to a prospect's most commonly asked questions. This kit also contains: an introduction letter, a Lifestyle Planning Profile for completion with a return evelope, a detailed step by step description of our Investment Process, a Customized Service Selection guide and a short piece on why we're successful.
Each new client receives a commitment letter from us outlining what he or she can expect from us. We get a commitment from our clients as part of the investment plan. Each new client is handed a Customized Services Menu outlining all the services we can provide, they select those services, which are of value to them. Apart from the standard ScotiaMcLeod services, we also provide quarterly portfolio/performance statements, newsletters, Internet access, email correspondence, and an email of ScotiaMcLeod's weekly market strategy. Our clients select the contact frequency that they expect and then we exceed it.
