The Story Behind Scotiabank Guyana

Scotiabank is proud to maintain its branch operations in Guyana, where it has operated for more than 38years.

Scotiabank opened its first Guyanese branch in the capital city of Georgetown in 1968 . Retail banking expanded with the addition of the Berbice Branch, located in Berbice, the second largest town in Guyana; and an additional in the city, the Robb Street. BranchParika and Bartica branches located in Essequibo followed, which ensured our presence in all three counties of Guyana (Berbice, Demerara and Essequibo) Activity in the branches in Guyana reflected the economic growth of the country, with agriculture being the main industry, increasingly moving towards the tourist industry.

With the five branches strategically placed throughout the country, Scotiabank continues to offer a complete range of retail, commercial banking, including electronic cash management and Merchant Services. The Bank has about 176 employees, plus 11 ATMs.

The bank has a developed small business unit to deal with the small to medium businesses, specifically unemployed persons. This unit is presently managed by the Commercial Banking Manager

Scotiabank is a strong supporter of various community initiatives, Scotiabank Guyana’s contributions range from sports causes, HIV/AIDS, to education and arts and culture, mainly geared towards children, the non-profit organizations and the aged.
