Kaye Transcript

Introduction

Hi, I'm Kaye and this Kirk. I'm the Manager of Workforce Diversity at Scotiabank and my role primarily focuses on enhancing the recruitment and retention of people with disabilities across all lines of business. To learn more, choose one of the questions on the left.

How does Scotiabank accommodate special needs?

Scotiabank has accommodated my needs very well through the use of tools and technologies. For example, I use a screen reading device which enables me to access my computer screen without vision. In addition, I use a scanner which converts printed material into audible format and I have a visual tech machine which enlarges prints so that I can read phone numbers and brief documents. Through the use of these special devices I'm able to perform my job very efficiently.

How are core values evident at the Bank?

My first impression of Scotiabank is that it's a very friendly and supportive environment. People work hard but they also have fun. "One Team - One Goal" is more than a value statement, it is in fact evident on a daily basis. And knowing this goes a long way in helping me recruit new employees.

How does Scotiabank support your career development?

I've been supported and encouraged both as a presenter and educator, and this has allowed me to further Scotiabank's Workforce Diversity initiatives and with the experience has also enabled me to further my professional career.

What are the rewards of your job?

Knowing that employees with disabilities will be treated with dignity and respect enables me to be a strong advocate to potential candidates. I enjoy a fulfilling career and am empowered to help others to do the same, and this is a huge reward.
