Group Head, Risk and Treasury

As Group Head, Risk and Treasury, Brian Porter oversees the global management of credit, market and operational risk for the Bank. He is also responsible for the Treasury function and Corporate Development Office.

Over more than 25 years, Brian held a variety of management positions, including Deputy Chairman, Scotia Capital Inc., before his appointment as Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer, Scotiabank, in 2005.

In addition, Brian is past Chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA), a Director of the Atlantic Salmon Federation and a member of the Faculty of Management Board of Advisors, Dalhousie University.

Brian received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School.

Brian and his wife, Megan, have three children.
