To take the guesswork out of buying accident care hospitalization insurance from ScotiaLife, we’ve put together a short list of what isn’t covered.
The Scotia® Accident Care Plan does not cover a hospital stay or emergency hospitalization due to:
- Any illness, disease or naturally occurring condition;
- Mental or physical infirmity or any related medical or surgical treatment;
- Intentionally self-inflicted injury while sane or insane;
- Ingestion of any drug unless prescribed and taken as directed by a licensed physician;
- An accidental bodily injury sustained while the insured's blood alcohol concentration level is in excess of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood;
- Any poison or gas voluntarily taken, administered, absorbed or inhaled;
- Flying (except as a passenger on a recognized commercial airline) or any form of aerial activity;
- War, insurrection or riot;
- Participation in a professional athletic competition or demonstration; or
- Committing, provoking or attempting to commit an assault or other criminal offence.
What else you should know
To receive the tax-free benefits from your Scotia Accident Care Plan, you must be hospitalized for a covered accident for a minimum of 12 consecutive hours in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe or the Caribbean. If you're not satisfied with your plan, simply cancel your coverage in writing within 30 days of receiving your insurance certificate and we will refund any premiums you may have paid.
