The migration to chip card technology represents a significant change in the Canadian payments landscape. A multi-participant trial is an important step in ensuring a smooth transition for all participants in the electronic payments system.
Kitchener-Waterloo Market Trial
Scotiabank is a key participant in an industry trial of the chip technology systems in Kitchener-Waterloo, which began in Fall 2007 and will run until Fall 2008.
The Trial will involve new chip cards, new debit and credit chip terminals at participating merchants, and a slightly new experience when you make card purchases. With your new ScotiaCard and Scotiabank VISA chip card(s) you will require a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To select or change your PIN on your chip card, please visit your local participating Kitchener-Waterloo branches.
The purpose of the industry trial is to test chip technology systems before chip cards are rolled out nationally.
Barrie Scotiabank Visa Chip Card Pilot
Scotiabank, with our partner Paymentech Canada, introduced another first in payment technology to the Canadian marketplace. In November 2003, Scotiabank launched the first VISA* cards in Canada containing a ‘chip’ that is protected by a PIN.
Barrie customers with a Scotiabank VISA chip card are able to change their PIN at participating Barrie branches.
