  • Your portfolio of Scotia Mutual Funds can be tailored to match your short, medium and long-term RRIF needs and you can diversify across the major asset categories.

Self-Directed RRIF

A Self-Directed RRIF allows you to invest in the widest range of qualified investments including equities, mutual funds, GICs T-Bills, bonds, CSBs, non-arm's length mortgages and foreign securities, all under one plan. Because of the ability to diversify, there is the potential to earn a higher return on your investments. It is recommended that you have a minimum of $15,000 for a Self-Directed plan.

Investing in a Self-Directed RRIF requires a commitment of time and a higher level of knowledge to direct your investments. For example, being aware of market and economic conditions that can affect the value of your investments is important, as will as monitoring your investments on a regular basis.

Your Scotiabank Personal Investment Manager would be pleased to answer your questions about Self-Directed RRIFs or to provide you information about our self-managed brokerage service or an introduction to an Investment Advisor at ScotiaMcLeod.
