1. Why should I create a profile and upload my resume on Scotiabank.com/careers?
The first time you submit your resume for a position, you'll be directed to MY PROFILE. This collects your relevant job preferences and resume and creates your secure access to Scotiabank's career site.

2. What is the job application process like at Scotiabank?
The process is simple: 1) Search for a career that suits your skills and qualifications by visiting our Career Centre. 2) Create a Profile. 3) Submit your application for the job(s) that suit your skills and qualifications. 4) If you are one of our top candidates, a recruiting team member will contact you by telephone or email to learn more about your interests and skills. 5) If you are selected for a personal interview, you will meet with one of our recruiting team members and/or the hiring manager. 4. How do I refer a friend to Scotiabank?
There are two ways to refer a friend to Scotiabank: 1) On our job search portal (www.jobs.scotiabank.com) you can use the ‘Watch our jobs’ tab to share job related information via different media; 2) On the Job Detail page during the application process you can use forward the job description tool via email. 5. How soon can I apply to another job if hired?
Each new hire must complete a probation period. Scotiabank also has Time On Post guidelines. These guidelines outline how long employees must be in the job before they can apply to other jobs. Based on job level, the time on post varies from 18 months to three years. These guidelines are in place to give employees the opportunity to demonstrate strong performance in their current role, giving them an opportunity to contribute to the organization's goals before considering a career move.
6. How do I search for jobs on Scotiabank's Careersite?
You can find available opportunities at www.jobs.scotiabank.com. Jobs are grouped by location and are assigned to a category depending on the functions of the role.
7. A job was posted. How long do I have to apply?
The qualifications, market conditions and location impact how long a job is posted. We recommend you apply when you see the vacancy. We also encourage maintaining an active profile on our site which will shorten the application process.
8. Can I apply to more than one job at a time?
Yes. However, if you are being considered for more than one position at the same time, we encourage you inform the hiring team to avoid duplication of efforts.
9. Must I provide my reference information when I apply?
No. References are conducted on the top candidates, after the interviews have been completed. We are very specific about the references we require. We seek three work related references with first-hand knowledge of your work performance and work background. If you are entering / reentering the workforce and have limited paid employment experience, we will discuss suitable academic and volunteer references with you. You will be notified by the hiring team when you have reached the reference stage and you will be required to complete an online form and authorization before the references can begin. We encourage you however, to begin locating the necessary information in advance - e.g. Student ID numbers for validation of certifications/degrees/diploma's obtained; locate and obtain current contact information from past supervisors. This will reduce delays in the recruitment process.
10. How will I know you have received my application? Will I receive confirmation if I apply by e-mail, or fax or mail in my resume?
Once you have created your on-line profile for the first time, you will receive an e-mail acknowledging receipt of your application. Due to the high volume of applications, we unfortunately don’t have the resources to provide individual feedback or the answers to personal questions early in the evaluation process. If you are invited to an interview, we would be happy to address your questions. If your application is not completed through the Career Center, you will not receive an e-mail acknowledgment. You may wish to follow up if you have submitted using fax, mail or e-mail to a specific contact at Scotiabank.
11. Can I check on the status of my application form for a job I applied to?
At this time, our hiring management system only allows you to see the jobs you have applied to, but it does not track the status of each of the applications. If you are being invited to an interview, you will be contacted directly. You will also be notified by e-mail once the job is filled or is cancelled/closed.
12. If I don’t see a job now; how will I know when an appropriate position becomes available?
The best way is by using the ‘Watch our Jobs’ tools available at www.jobs.scotiabank.com. You can create an RSS feed or create an e-mail notification new postings that match your career preferences.
13. How will you contact me?
Using the contact information you have provided on your resume and /or profile. We normally will contact you by e-mail or phone. Please ensure your information is up to date at all times. We suggest post secondary students who may be relocating during their job search, provide a reliable alternate phone number and contact.
14. I have been contacted and told there would be an assessment. What can I expect?
Understanding our candidates is a key part of that success. Job related assessments are used for certain roles to assist the hiring team identify candidates who have the required job-related skills and competencies. You will be informed of the details on how to complete the assessment and if preparation is required. Completion of the assessment is required in order for your candidacy to receive full consideration for employment with the Scotiabank Group. If you require accommodations to complete the assessment, please discuss with the hiring member team arranging the assessment.
15. How will my personal information be used?

16. I am working with a placement/search firm or agency. Can I still apply on line?
Scotiabank works with search /placement agencies from time to time. Designated (pre-approved) agencies are notified by the Scotiabank recruiter when we wish to receive candidate referrals. Scotiabank does not accept unsolicited referrals from search /placement agencies. Ensure you are communicating well with the agency representative so that duplicate applications for the same job are not received. To maximize your job search strategy, ensure you are leveraging all the tools available by creating a profile on the career site and using Job Agents. If you will be applying for other Scotiabank positions or departments, it is your responsibility to keep your search /placement agencies partner informed.
17. When creating My PROFILE, I have to select Position Type Preference. What is this?
Scotiabank has seven categories. The hiring team uses this information to match opportunities to your career interests. Ensure your Profile is current and reflects your preferences. You can select more than one preference.
- 1) casual /on call - if hired, you are hired on an as-needed basis with no regularly scheduled hours of work. Casual / on call employees are often called on to cover short term intermittent absences due to illness or vacations.You are not eligible for benefits. Students often start as casual employees while they continue their studies.
- 2) Contract employees are hired under a fixed-term employment agreement, with a defined end-date, to meet temporary business needs. The employment contract is subject to the terms and conditions set out in the Offer Letter for Temporary Contract Employment.
- 3) Full Time employees are employed on a continuous basis to regularly work the Bank's standard work week and receive an annual salary and have a full range of benefits.
- 4) New Grad is for newly graduated post secondary students seeking a new career opportunity.
- 5) Part Time are positions that work less than the Bank's standard work week and are paid on an hourly basis. If they are not CONTRACT, they may be eligilbe for benefits. Individuals balancing work and life commitments eg studies, family obligations, career transition often choose this category.
- 6) Summer opportunities are intended for students who are only interested in work between May and September months.
18. I speak other languages in addition to English. Is this considered an asset to Scotiabank?
Yes. We pride ourselves on having a diverse workforce that reflects and serves the communities in which we operate, so if you speak another language, please let us know by identifying the languages on your on-line profile and resume.
19. Can I upload multiple resumes/ CV's to my account?
The system only stores one version of your cover letter or resume.
20. How do I create a bilingual resume?
The system only stores one version of your resume. If you are a fully bilingual candidate (French and English) and are applying to jobs that require both languages, we recommend that you upload one document containing both versions of your resume (English & French). Be sure to include the word 'bilingual' in your resume. Ensure you list your language skills in 'My Profile'.
21. What is the best format for my resume?
The resume database supports documents in HTML, Microsoft Word or Text Format only. Microsoft Word provides the recruitment team with the best formatted document. Please note, the database can only store one version of your cover letter/resume at any time.
22. I receive error messages when uploading my resume. What do I do?

23. How do I remove my profile and resume?
Once you create a profile on Scotiabank.com/careers, your application is considered active until you notify us to deactivate it. To deactivate your profile, please call Career Centre Help Desk at 1-877-560-4084.
24. I have multiple profiles on Scotiabank's website. How do I deactivate the profiles that are no longer accurate?
To deactivate any of your profiles, please call Career Centre Help Desk at 1-877-560-4084. Profiles can not be merged.

2. I have been contacted for an interview. How do I prepare?
If you have applied to more than one job, ensure you know which department is contacting you and for which job. Using your profile, locate the appropriate job posting, review its' requirements and job functions. Be prepared to relate and articulate your experiences and skills to the posted requirements and the organization goals. For many positions, you may be asked to share past experiences with the interviewer. For example, you may be asked to describe a situation in which you applied your knowledge to overcome obstacles or problems. Or you may be asked to describe a situation in which you unexpectedly had to take on a leadership role and overcome a challenging situation.
Ideally, you should:
- Briefly describe the situation you found yourself in
- Summarize the actions you took
- State the outcome based on your actions
1. What are the legal requirements to work at Scotiabank Canada?
To work in Canada, you must meet the necessary requirements outlined by the Government of Canada. If you are not a Canadian Permanent Resident or a Canadian Citizen, you can not work in Canada without first obtaining a Work Permit. You must also be over 18 years of age and be able to meet the requirements of the Bank's Pre-employment screening which includes Background Reference Checking and Criminal Reference Checking.
