Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity Awards
Scotiabank has been named as Canada's Best Diversity Employer for 2009 -one of the top 35 best diversity employers in Canada.
This annual competition, now in its second year, evaluates the diversity and inclusiveness programs of more than 2,100 employers who applied for the 2009 Canada's Top 100 Employer Award.
Mediacorp Canada and specialists from the diversity consulting firm TWI Inc. reviewed corporate initiatives in five major employee groups: women; visible minorities; persons with disabilities; aboriginal people; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. They then compared employee programs for these audiences, against firms in the same field.
This award recognizes Scotiabank as an industry leader in diversity and spotlights our commitment to providing an inclusive and accessible workplace for all our employees.
Corporate Knights 2009 Leadership Diversity Index
Scotiabank has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Canadian companies in the Corporate Knights 2009 Leadership Diversity Index. This annual survey recognizes Canadian companies (125 examined) that have achieved the greatest visible minority, Aboriginal, and female representation in both the boardroom and the executive C-level suite.
Gender Equity Model (Women’s National Institute)
Scotiabank Mexico achieved one of the highest compliance levels in the history of the program in Mexico (98% compliance grade).
Scotiabank was awarded silver level standing by The Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business for PAR, or Progressive Aboriginal Relations, representing “significant accomplishment.” We are one of 15 organizations to receive this award.
Through PAR, companies establish an effective strategy to maximize their involvement in the Aboriginal market. Companies assess their individual performance in working with Aboriginal communities, which are then verified by an independent organization - the National Quality Institute. This verification is submitted to an independent PAR jury to determine whether a company's level is Bronze and at the beginning of the PAR journey.
In 2007, Scotiabank won the prestigious Catalyst Award for its outstanding initiatives that result in advancement of women in the workplace.
