A Western Union Money Transfer is the transfer of funds to a person from one Western Union Agent to another Western Union Agent at another location. Western Union has over 334,000 Agents worldwide, including Canada and the United States.

What do I need to conduct/complete a Western Union Money Transfer?
You need a personal Scotiabank Day-to-Day account (in Canadian dollars) and a ScotiaCard.

To which countries am I able to send a Western Union Money Transfer?
Customers can send money to over 334,000 Agent locations in more than 220 countries and territories. Service is not available to restricted countries.

How does my receiver pick up their Western Union Money Transfer? What do they need?
To pick money up, your receiver will need to complete a "To Receive Money" form at any Western Union Agent location in their country. They will need to provide proper identification or answer a test question. In some cases, your receiver may be required to provide the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number). The agent will then pay the transfer amount to your receiver.

How is the money transfer paid out to my receiver?
In most cases, money transfers are paid out in cash. However, depending on the amount sent and the location, some money transfers will be paid out by cheque, or in a combination of cash and a cheque. International transactions are usually paid in local currency. Other restrictions may apply.

What are Western Union Agent locations?
Western Union Agent locations are independent businesses that provide money transfer service to their customers on behalf of Western Union. Outside Canada, agents include well-known financial institutions, post offices, airports, stations, currency exchange offices, travel agencies and other locations.

What is a MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number)?
A Money Transfer Control Number is a tracking number generated once you have successfully completed a Western Union Money Transfer.

What do I do with my Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN)?
You should provide your receiver with the MTCN as they may need this to pick up their funds. The MTCN will also be required when you or your receiver calls Western Union for assistance or to track the status of your transfer.

How quickly will the funds be available to my receiver?
Generally, funds are available within 10 minutes. Transfers sent via Scotia OnLine or through the Contact Centre are usually available within 60 minutes.

Will I receive confirmation that the receiver has picked up the money?
No; however, your have the option of calling the toll-free Western Union line (1-800-267-0486) to check on the status of the money transfer. Your will need the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number) to track the transfer.

What is the fee to send a Western Union Money Transfer using Scotia OnLine?
All Western Union Money Transfers sent using Scotia OnLine will be charged $9 + 1% of the money transfer amount. As an example, a customer who wants to send $300 using Scotia OnLine, would pay a Western Union transfer fee of $12 ($9 + $3 = $12). This pricing is effective for all destinations.

Are Western Union fees different at Scotiabank compared to other Western Union Agent locations?
No. Since Scotiabank is an agent of Western Union, the fees used are those that are set and provided by Western Union Canada. Scotiabank does not have any input or control in the setting of these fees.

What foreign exchange rates are used for a Western Union Money Transfer transaction?
Since Scotiabank is an agent of Western Union, the exchange rate is set by Western Union Canada. Scotiabank does not influence Western Union exchange rates, and the rates may be higher or lower then posted Scotiabank rates.

Are the exchange rates different through the different channels?
No. The branch, Scotia OnLine and the Contact Centre use the same exchange rates that have been set by Western Union Canada.

Will I be advised of the exchange rate prior to the money transfer being submitted?
Yes. Regardless if you perform your transaction in branch, via Scotia OnLine, or through the Contact Centre, you will always preview (or be advised) of both the exchange rate and the transaction fee prior to sending your transfer.

Can I pick up a Western Union Money Transfer through Scotiabank?
No, currently you are only able to send Western Union Money Transfers through Scotiabank.
