Open your first bank account
To establish yourself financially, your most immediate task is to open a Canadian bank account for your day-to-day banking.
You will need a bank account to pay bills, transfer funds, and deposit cheques. You may also use your account statements as proof of address to obtain important Canadian documents.

When you come in to open your bank account, bring:
For Landed Immigrants and Immigrant Investors:
- A current valid passport
- Confirmation of immigration status in Canada (IMM5292)
- A current valid passport
- Letter of Acceptance from a Canadian educational institution
- A Study Permit (IMM1442 is the most common)

You can also make cash withdrawals when travelling outside Canada, from ABMs belonging to member banks of the Global ATM Alliance.
