With this affordable protection, you'll receive a cash benefit of up to $300 a day, to a maximum of 365 days, for each day you're hospitalized due to a covered accident.
ScotiaLife Accident Hospitalization Insurance offers:
- Guaranteed acceptance. If you're a Scotiabank customer between the ages of 18 and 69 and a Canadian resident, then you'll be accepted.
- Tax-free benefits - yours to spend as you wish - for each day you're hospitalized, with a minimum stay requirement of 12 consecutive hours.
- Double benefits for every day you spend in an Intensive Care Unit in Canada, (for up to 365 days). You will also get double benefits (for up to 30 days) for emergency hospitalization outside Canada (within the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean or Europe).
- Low group rates that are guaranteed never to increase after you enrol. And, as you'll see in our rate table, the higher the coverage, the more you save.
- Spousal coverage at a discount.
- Quick and easy enrolment.
- Convenient payment options and automatic renewal. Pay your premiums monthly through your Scotiabank chequing, savings or VISA* account. Your plan is automatically renewed each year for continuous coverage.
- A 30-day review period to ensure you're completely satisfied with your coverage. If, for any reason, you are not satisfied, return your Certificate within 30 days, and we'll cancel your coverage and refund any premiums you've paid.

**The benefit amount is reduced to 75% at age 65 and to 50% at age 70. Coverage ends at age 80.
What's Not Covered
To take the guesswork out of buying ScotiaLife Accident Hospitalization Insurance from ScotiaLife Financial, we've put together a short list of what isn't covered. The ScotiaLife Accident Hospitalization Insurance does not cover a hospital stay or emergency hospitalization due to:
- any naturally occurring condition, illness or disease or bodily or mental infirmity of any kind, or medical or surgical treatment for any such condition, illness, disease or infirmity;
- an intentionally self-inflicted injury while sane or any self-inflicted injury while insane;
- an Accidental Bodily Injury sustained while under the influence of any drug, unless the drug was prescribed by a Physician and taken as directed;
- an Accidental Bodily Injury sustained while an Insured Person's blood alcohol concentration was in excess of eighty (80) milligrams of alcohol per one hundred (100) milliliters of blood;
- an Accidental Bodily Injury sustained while under the influence of any poison or gas that was voluntarily taken, administered, absorbed or inhaled;
- flying (except as a passenger on a recognized commercial airline) or any other form of aerial activity;
- war (declared or undeclared), riot or civil commotion, insurrection or hostilities of any kind;
- participation as a professional athlete in an athletic competition or demonstration; or
- commission of, or attempt to commit, or the provocation of any indictable criminal offense.
Tax-free Benefits Conditions
To receive the tax-free benefits from your ScotiaLife Accident Hospitalization Insurance, you must be hospitalized for a covered accident for a minimum of 12 consecutive hours in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe or the Caribbean.
