CONTEST PERIOD
This contest commences at 9:00 a.m. (EST) Friday August 1 2008, and ends at 7:00 p.m. (EST) Friday October 31, 2008 (the “Contest Period”).
HOW TO ENTER
You will be automatically entered when you purchase a minimum of the CAD equivalent of $1,000 worth or more in American Express®∑ Travellers Cheques in Canada (“travellers cheque”) at any Scotiabank branch or by calling 1-888-431-3890 or through Scotia OnLine® Financial Services. However, only those entries generated with a minimum single total purchase of $1000 Canadian equivalent or more will be eligible to win in this contest. Limit one entry per travellers cheque purchase.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY
To enter without purchase send a 100-word (or more) hand written essay about “The Advantages of American Express Travellers Cheques” with full name, address, age and telephone number to: Amex Scotiabank Sweepstakes, PO Box 4013, Paris, ON N3L 3W9. All entries must be postmarked by Friday October 31, 2008 (the “Contest Closing Date”). You can enter as often as you wish by mail but each mail-in entry must be a unique hand written essay mailed bearing sufficient postage each in a separate envelope.
To be eligible, entries must be received by the Contest Closing Date. All entries become the property of Scotiabank, (“Contest Sponsor”) who assumes no responsibility for late, lost, delayed, damaged, destroyed, misidentified or misdirected entries. By entering this contest, entrants agree to abide by the contest rules and regulations and the decisions of the independent contest organization (“ICO”). The decisions of the ICO are final.
WHO CAN ENTER
This contest is open to individuals who are legal residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence on or before Friday October 31, 2008, except employees and persons domiciled with employees of the ICO, Scotiabank, Amex Canada Inc. Amex Bank of Canada, and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies.
THE PRIZE
There will be two (2) prizes each consisting of $20,000 cash, deposited into a Scotia Money Master® Savings Account. If you do not currently have a Money Master Savings Account, you will be required to open one in order to claim your prize. The prize must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable or convertible to cash. The same individual cannot win more than once.
CONTEST DRAW
On or about November 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Brantford Ontario, a random draw will be made from among all eligible purchase and no purchase entries received during the Contest Period. The odds of being selected depend on the total number of eligible purchase and no-purchase entries received. If the ICO, acting reasonably, cannot contact by phone the first selected entrant within two weeks of the draw date, it will then make reasonable efforts to contact a second randomly selected entrant by phone within a further two weeks, failing which it will make reasonable efforts to contact a third selected entrant within a further two weeks, and so on, until a selected entrant is contacted.
HOW TO WIN
If a purchase entry is selected and the total purchase amount meets or exceeds the $1,000 Canadian equivalent minimum, that entry will be eligible to win. All those purchase entries that do not qualify, if selected will be disqualified. In order to win, the selected entrant must first correctly answer, unaided, a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by the ICO. The winners will be contacted by Scotiabank to make arrangements for the awarding of the prize. Before receiving the prize, each winner must sign standard forms of release releasing Scotiabank, (the “Contest Sponsor”) and their respective officers, directors, employees, affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies and the ICO from any and all standard forms of release of liability and grant standard publicity releases in connection with participation in the Contest, acceptance of the prizes and the use and/or misuse of the prize and any travel related thereto.
By participating, entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Scotiabank, Amex Canada Inc., Amex Bank of Canada (the “Releasees”) their respective employees, officers, directors, parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, agents and representatives from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind resulting from their participation in the contest or their acceptance, use or misuse of a prize. Releasees, their respective officers, directors, parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, agents and representatives and their respective employees are not responsible for and shall not be liable for (a) any electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind, including without limitation, server malfunction or by any human error which may occur in the processing of entries; (b) failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions; (c) lost, late, misdirected, incomplete or incorrect entries; or (d) any condition cause by events beyond the control of Scotiabank, that may cause the promotion to be disrupted or corrupted. Scotiabank reserves the right in its sole discretion, subject to the approval of the RACJ in Quebec, to cancel or suspend the contest or any portion thereof should virus, bugs or other causes beyond the control of Scotiabank to corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the promotion. Entry information becomes the property of Scotiabank and any personal information collected will be used solely for the purposes of administering this contest in accordance with its privacy policy.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Contest Sponsor reserve the right, subject to approval from the Régie, to terminate, modify or suspend the contest or these rules if events beyond their reasonable control make continuation unfeasible and has corrupt the proper and fair administration of the Contest. All entries become the property of the Contest Sponsor and none will be returned. The Contest Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, destroyed or misdirected entries. By entering the contest, all entrants agree to be bound by the contest rules. Scotiabank is not acting as agent of Amex Canada Inc. or the prize supplier. This contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws.
For Quebec Only: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of this contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (RACJ) for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the RACJ only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
