Q. Why did Scotiabank buy E*TRADE?

A. E*TRADE Canada is one of the leading online trading service providers specialising in services to active traders. This deal presented an ideal opportunity for us to expand the range of services offered by Scotiabank at the same time as expanding our presence in the online investing market place overall. We expect this addition will provide enhanced online services for all Scotiabank customers as well as providing E*TRADE customers with access to the more comprehensive financial services in which Scotiabank is one of the market leaders.

Q. How will this affect your new E*TRADE Canada Customers?

A. For the immediate term as we seek regulatory approvals, it is business as usual at E*TRADE Canada so things will continue as before. In the future Scotiabank will be looking to enhance these features with access to the comprehensive range of financial services that Scotiabank offers to all its clients.

Q. Will your customer service change now that you have more customers?

A. As the deal to acquire E*TRADE Canada has not closed yet it will be business as usual for you over the near future, including your access to and relationships with our customer service associates. Scotiabank has been widely recognized for providing excellent customer service and we look forward to working with them to ensure we deliver an excellent customer experience.

Q. Will you now be offering additional trading features?

A. We certainly plan to make the best features of all our service platforms available to all Scotiabank customers. Including the features and the pricing that goes with them.

Q. Can I now get the $7 E*TRADE Canada pricing?

A. For the moment the deal has not closed so there will be no changes in the immediate term. Our intention is to maintain all the features of the E*TRADE Canada service.

Q. Will Scotiabank retain the E*TRADE Canada brand as they have done with TradeFreedom?

A. Upon regulatory approval, E*TRADE Canada will continue to operate as a separate brand in the near term. Scotiabank understands that the approach adopted by E*TRADE Canada has been successful in delivering to the special needs of the online trader segment and it is our intention to preserve this approach. Any decision on branding will reflect our commitment to continue to deliver leading online investing solutions to all Canadians.
