Migration to chip technology brings a number of benefits – perhaps the most important benefit is added security.
Using Your New Chip Card
When using your new ScotiaCard™ chip card or Scotiabank VISA* chip card to make a purchase, the process will differ slightly at a chip enabled terminal from your current cards. For your Scotiabank VISA chip card you will require a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to authorize your transactions like your bank card.
Insert your chip card into the
terminal card reader. |

| Follow the terminal prompts. |

Enter your confidential PIN.
Entering your PIN replaces the need for a signature on your VISA purchase slip. Remember to always Protect Your PIN.

When prompted, remove your chip card from the chip terminal and take your receipt.

Making an Already Safe Payments System Even More Secure
Cards currently in the market with the magnetic stripe are still a reliable and secure method of payment.
Because the changeover to chip will happen over time, not all businesses will have a chip terminal, and not all cardholders will have chip cards immediately. Therefore, cards will contain both a chip and magnetic stripe for some time to come. Chip terminals will continue to accept magnetic stripe cards.
