Select your PIN at your neighbourhood Scotiabank Branch
You'll enter your PIN into a chip terminal, instead of signing a receipt.
This means increased protection against credit card fraud.
A VISA card with an embedded computer chip and magnetic stripe.
The chip is virtually impossible to copy.

With your new Scotiabank VISA* chip card you’ll enjoy the same benefits and worldwide acceptance as with your current VISA card. Your Scotiabank VISA chip card will be available over the next few years. We will communicate with you in advance when and how you will receive your card.

A VISA chip card is a VISA payment card with an embedded computer chip as well as a magnetic stripe. The chip securely stores information such as the cardholder’s account number and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Using Chip & PIN Is Simple

When used in a chip terminal, Scotiabank VISA chip cards will require a PIN for cardholder verification. Rather than signing a receipt, the cardholder will enter their PIN into a chip terminal to verify their identity.

To get a PIN, simply visit your neighbourhood Scotiabank Branch with your current Scotiabank VISA card, and identification to select your confidential 4 digit code. Once selected, we will transfer your PIN to your new VISA chip card upon issuance. You will not need to re-select a PIN for your re-issue or replacement card.

During the Kitchener-Waterloo Trial, customers with a chip card can change their PIN at local participating Kitchener-Waterloo branches.

To protect your PIN:

  • Select a unique PIN. Do Not select your birth date, telephone number, license plate or other easy to guess combinations.
  • Memorize your PIN. Do Not write it down or tell anyone.
  • Remember to shield the keypad when entering your PIN.
