Team Scotia Community Program

Through the Team Scotia Community Program (TSCP), Scotiabank matches funds raised by employees for local causes, up to a maximum of $5,000 raised by teams of five or more employees. For teams of two, three or four employees, the Bank will now match up to $2,000, $3,000 or $4,000, respectively.

Supporting more accessible services for the blind
To help rural residents who must travel long distances to access Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) services in Calgary or Edmonton, all 22 Scotiabank branches in Central Alberta came together to help fund a new CNIB office in Red Deer. With the support of area Scotiabankers Kim Hutchings, Melody Kennedy and Kenneth Johnson, they held raffle ticket draws, bake sales and barbeques, with proceeds matched by TSCP.

Good-spirited spooks for youth
Scotiabankers in Miramichi, N.B. gleefully donned scary costumes and wielded styrofoam axes to help operate the ‘Fear Factory’ haunted house Halloween fundraiser for local youth groups. Water St. Branch Manager Al Sypher and Lori Sturgeon, Small Business Account Manager, were among the staff that spooked visitors, helping raise $20,000 for the Boys & Girls Club and Big Brothers /Big Sisters organizations, including $5,000 pledged by TSCP.

Supporting community heroes
Scotiabankers in El Salvador used their “Help us to keep on helping” campaign on the International Day of the Volunteer to support the work of the Salvadoran Red Cross. TSCP matched funds raised by Scotiabankers including Ivan Matta, Margarita de Urrutia and Liam McCabe, who spent the day in malls collecting donations.

Going the distance for medical research
In Montreal, avid Scotiabank cyclists take part in the annual 200 kilometre VelotourSP ride across the Outaouais region in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Among the five Scotiabank participants in the two-day trek, Paul Chauvette, Branch Manager, St. Laurent & Prince Arthur, has risen early for the past 10 years to train for the event. Last year the Scotiabank team raised $16,400, including $5,000 pledged by TSCP.

Fundraising for women’s health
Scotiabankers from the Westboro, Ottawa branch, including Rita Vashishta and Mary Voteary, joined together to support the Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre at the Ottawa Hospital. TSCP matched funds raised through baking and book sales and donation drives to support the internationally recognized women’s health institute.
