Scotia Employee Volunteer Program

Under the Scotia Employee Volunteer Program (SEVP), the Bank donates up to $1,000 per year to charitable organizations in which our employees and pensioners are active volunteers.

Examples

Hands-on support for needy families
In Grand Falls, N.B., Scotiabank senior personal banking officer Kim Pelletier was recognized by the SEVP program for his year-round support for the Richelieu International Club, a group that aids families and children in need. Kim spent an average of two hours per week canvassing door-to-door and distributing food boxes to 264 local families during the Christmas season.

Creating a place to play
Darcie Campbell from the Selkirk, Man. branch has spent the past four years volunteering with the Interlake Co-op Nursery School as Treasurer to the Board of Directors and Board President. Darcie oversees daily operations, leads the volunteer team and co-ordinates fundraising activities. Scotiabank’s contribution, through SEVP, has been directed towards building a new playground for children, such as Darcie’s daughter and son, who attend the school.

Celebrating cultural heritage
For the past four years, ScotiaMcLeod’s Ivan Chang has helped celebrate Vancouver’s multicultural heritage as a volunteer for the annual Chinatown Arts and Cultural Festival, held each July. Serving on the planning committee, the Richmond, B.C.-based Scotiabanker has organized event entertainment including onstage performances, artists’ markets, children’s workshops and a food fair to help share the community’s vibrant culture.

Bringing business skills to a personal cause
Since 1996, Kenneth Irvine from Scotia Capital New York has applied his business skills to the battle against Alpha-1, a genetic disorder that causes liver and lung disease. Since his wife Bettina was diagnosed with the disease more than 10 years ago, Ken has volunteered on the Alpha-1 Foundation Board of Directors to help eradicate the disease. His dedication has earned SEVP funding for the cause.

Supporting academic and social progress
As volunteer Treasurer of the Board of Directors of El Politécnico Teresiano, Puerto Rico-based Juan Antonio helps the school strengthen the town of Loiza through academic, technical training, recreational and spiritual services in the community. The Scotia Insurance employee helps administer the centre and fundraises for scholarship and bursary programs.
