What is a Podcast?

A podcast is similar to a radio broadcast, except that it's broadcast on the Internet instead of over the airwaves.

Podcast episodes can be listened to "on demand" or be downloaded individually, or you can subscribe to them so that they are downloaded to your computer automatically whenever a new episode is published. The following describes each of these options.

Listen Now Option

The "Listen Now" option lets you listen to The Scotiabank Find the Money Podcast via the Scotiabank Player, right on the Find the Money podcast webpage.

In order to do this you need to be connected to the Internet. When you click the "Listen Now" link the Player will load up and the podcast should start right away in a new pop-up window. Use the Play, Pause, and Rewind buttons to control the experience.

Download Option

The "Download Now" link lets you save a copy of an individual Scotiabank Find the Money podcast episode onto your computer. You can then listen to the podcast whenever you want, or even transfer it onto your portable MP3 player.

How you download the audio will depend on the set up and settings of your computer.

If you want to download the audio you need to click on the link using the button on the right hand side of your mouse. You should then see a list of options including either "Save Target As…" or "Save Link As…". If you select this option (or a similar option containing the word "save") you should be able to save the audio file (MP3) to your computer. Remember to save it to a folder you'll be able to find again later.

Subscribe to Podcast Option

Subscribing to a Podcast lets you automatically receive the latest episode of the Scotiabank Find the Money podcast with Fred Ketchen as soon as it's available. Think of it as a magazine subscription with your computer or MP3 player as your "mailbox". To subscribe to the podcast, all you need is:

  • An internet connection.

  • Podcast software installed (which is usually available free of charge). This software will check the Scotiabank website for new episodes and automatically download them for you.

The steps you go though in order to subscribe to a podcast will vary depending on which software you choose. A couple of popular ones are iTunes and Juice.

It's important to know that Scotiabank podcasts are free, and you can stop receiving the files at any time.

You can also subscribe by copying the url for the RSS feed into your podcast-capable software or RSS reader.
