Charitable Giving

Helping you help others.

Our solutions can help you make sense of your charitable giving plan.

Charitable giving is a growing priority for many affluent Canadians. Philanthropy reflects our values and commitment to make a difference in the community and in the greater world.

A good charitable plan balances tax savings, personal and family requirements, and your charitable objectives. It may involve gifts during your lifetime and as part of your estate plan.

Whether you are considering a tax-effective direct donation or establishing a family foundation to provide ongoing support to your favourite causes, your ScotiaMcLeod advisor can help you implement a personal plan.

ScotiaMcLeod has philanthropic experts to assist with integrating your philanthropic objectives with your financial and estate plan. There are three philanthropic options to consider:

  • Direct gift to favourite charities:
Direct gifts are the most common form of giving. There are a variety of ways to give that combine various tax savings, income and timing considerations. These include gifts of cash, public securities, bequests (gifts by will), charitable gift annuities (gifts that provide a life income), and life insurance.

  • Donor Advised Fund at Aqueduct Foundation:
Aqueduct Foundation is a public foundation with individual giving accounts called donor advised funds. These funds are like private foundations, enabling the donor to choose the charities to be supported after the initial gift is made. A legacy fund established now and funded with a bequest can create a meaningful living entity that continues to give to causes of your choice.

  • Private Foundation:
A private foundation is a registered charity established, funded and controlled by a family or individual. Private foundations are a powerful way to engage future generations of family to address the needs of the community. We have a complete suite of services to establish, administer and provide investment services for private charitable foundations.
