I joined Scotiabank’s IT Associate Program after graduating from Ryerson University’s Business Technology Management Program in 2012. The career opportunity this program provided aligned with what I had majored in and therefore appealed greatly to my interest in working with IT.
I was hired into the Operational Excellence Program which focuses on process improvements within Scotiabank’s IT business unit globally. During my year-and-a-half experience in my current role, I have had the opportunity to work with multiple IT teams in designing and executing operational process re-engineering on multiple projects of varying sizes, being engaged with all levels of leadership and was provided with regular coaching, training and support. Due to the nature of the projects, I was able to quickly learn about the different sub-departments that form Scotiabank’s larger IT Business Unit and how they work together to keep Scotiabank operational.
The IT Associate Program has given me the opportunity to join an amazing team and work in an enjoyable and respectable environment. This program has helped me gain foundational skills for building my career in the realm of IT Operations and Business Analysis. I joined the IT Associate Program after completing my Bachelors of Business Technology Management at Ryerson University. After previously completing two co-op work terms at Scotiabank in Information Technology & Solutions and Global Wholesale Technology, I gained valuable experience and exposure to multiple departments within the bank.
I was attracted to this program as it presented vast opportunities with a leading financial institution. I utilized my education in a practical manner and had the opportunity to work with prominent applications while contributing to projects in a meaningful role. The IT Associate program enabled me to land a full time position as a Business Analyst in Global Wholesale Technology- Equities, where I support multiple Equities and Prime Services applications. My current role has allowed me to further develop my knowledge of Capital markets while providing practical experience in business analysis and project management. I hope to pursue a career in Project Management in the long term.

I joined the Scotiabank IT Associate Program because it was the ideal opportunity to pursue a career in my field with a top Canadian bank. After completing two co-op work terms with Scotiabank, I knew it was where I wanted to work after graduating from Ryerson’s Business Technology Management program. The combination of business and IT experience I have gained during my university classes and co-op work terms put me in the ideal position for this program. What attracted me to the IT Associate Program was the ability to perform meaningful work while broadening my business, technology and interpersonal skills within a stimulating and fast-paced work environment.
I am currently a Business Analyst within the Global Fixed Income & Derivatives team. My role leverages both my business and technical skills in order to perform a multitude of meaningful work. I am responsible for supporting two trading systems, a mortgage aggregation business program and a number of downstream systems within the bank. I am also involved in projects that enhance existing functionalities within the department in addition to helping implement new functionalities for process improvement/enhancement purposes. For me, the highlight of the program is the ability to perform exciting and interesting work while learning new things each day, in addition to becoming a valued member of my team. The experience so far has been wonderful as I’m strengthening a number of technical skills and gaining valuable business knowledge, all while receiving support from my colleagues.

I joined the IT Associate Program after I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto. Scotiabank’s IT Associate Program has offered me a great opportunity to really broaden my horizons and receive a lot of industry experience as a new graduate.
Through this program I gained full time employment, with the opportunity to work and learn firsthand from many IT leaders who have been in the industry for over 20 years. I was hired to work in the Information Technology & Solutions business unit and Human Resources Department’s under the Operational Excellence Program (OEP) as a Business Analyst. In this role, I have had the opportunity to work with various Technology departments assisting with the execution of strategic projects. This includes performing tasks such as process re-engineering, engaging teams in change management, operational process efficiency for IT service delivery and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. In addition, I also became the co-chair for the Scotiabank Young Professionals Association, which has allowed me to broaden my network, learn about Scotiabank and build upon my leadership skills.
This program has been of tremendous value to building my career. As a new graduate, I felt very uncertain about what was next, but through this experience and from the knowledge I’ve gained, I have learned that there are endless possibilities. This program has allowed me to enhance my skills, grow as an individual and learn a lot about Scotiabank. In addition, it was tailored to make the transition from the student life to the workforce as smooth as possible. The program has really assisted me in gaining a strong foundation to be successful in my career in banking. I have and would recommend this program to all new graduates.
