Meet Samy

I'm Samy and I'm a Financial Advisor at Scotiabank.

What we do is we try to build relationships. So we meet with the clients, we try to find out what their goals are, and then we put together a plan to try to achieve those goals.

It's all about building that relationship and gaining the trust of the client. And it's really satisfying when they come to you and they've reached a goal that you helped them reach and there's nothing like it in the world.

I was actually in University and I ended up getting a part time job with the bank, as a teller. It was actually my manager at the time who supported me and recommended that I continue and do some training with regards to getting into personal banking and then financial advising.

So, from the beginning, I had a great deal of support from management and from my colleagues. And that's one of the main things that has got me to where I am today.

Other than lunch? My favourite part of the day... My favourite part of the day is probably getting together with team every morning before we open the doors of the branch. We talk about recent events and anything, any new products that might be out there. And, we kick off the day as a team.

We give back in the community in a lot of ways. We sponsor a lot of charities and we do walks and marathons, and were constantly raising money. Whether it be through bake sales, or book sales, or sponsoring a local soccer team or hockey team. We're always involved with the community.

I'm really happy to be a part of the Multi-Cultural Committee at Scotiabank. Mainly because it gives me a chance to celebrate my community. Most of my friends and family are actual Scotiabank customers now, because I've brought them over and they're very happy with the services that we provide them. Not only because I work there but because were a great institution.

Meet Samy

Je m’appelle Samuel et j’occupe le poste de spécialiste, Gestion des avoirs à la Banque Scotia.

Notre but premier est d’établir des relations avec la clientèle. Nous rencontrons les clients, nous déterminons leurs objectifs puis formulons un plan permettant d’atteindre ces objectifs.

Tout tourne autour de l’établissement de relations et de la confiance des clients que l’on doit gagner. C’est vraiment gratifiant de permettre à un client d’atteindre un objectif, c’est une sensation formidable.

J’étudiais à l’université lorsque je me suis retrouvé caissier à temps partiel à la banque. À l’époque, c’est mon directeur qui m’a donné son appui et a suggéré que je poursuive mon travail à la banque et suive des programmes de formation en services bancaires personnels puis en planification financière.

Ainsi, dès le départ, j’ai bénéficié du soutien de mes supérieurs et de mes collègues. C’est l’une des principales raisons qui fait que je me retrouve à ce poste aujourd’hui.

Mis à part l’heure de lunch? La période de la journée que je préfère… eh! bien c’est probablement la réunion avec les autres membres de l’équipe tous les matins avant l’ouverture de la succursale. Nous discutons entre autres des récents événements, des nouveaux produits sur le marché. Puis nous amorçons la journée en équipe.

Nous sommes au service de la collectivité de nombreuses façons. Nous parrainons un grand nombre d’activités de bienfaisance, prenons part à des marches et à des marathons, nous amassons continuellement des fonds. Que ce soit par la vente de pâtisseries ou de livres d’occasion ou par la commandite d’équipes de soccer et de hockey, nous sommes toujours présents dans la communauté.

Je suis ravi de siéger au comité multiculturel de la Banque Scotia, principalement parce que cela me donne l’occasion d’afficher mon sentiment d’appartenance à la communauté. La plupart de mes proches sont des clients de la Banque Scotia maintenant, car je les ai encouragés à venir tester nos services, qui les ont pleinement satisfaits, et cela non seulement parce que j’y travaille, mais parce que la Banque Scotia est une grande institution.

Me llamo Samy y soy asesor financiero en Scotiabank.

Nuestro trabajo consiste en establecer relaciones. Nos reunimos con los clientes, vemos cuáles son sus metas y entonces diseñamos un plan para tratar de alcanzarlas.

La clave es establecer esa relación y ganarse la confianza del cliente. Da mucha satisfacción cuando tu cliente alcanza una meta gracias a tu ayuda. Es un sentimiento incomparable.

Cuando todavía estudiaba en la universidad, conseguí un trabajo a medio tiempo en el Banco, de cajero. Mi jefe de entonces me apoyó y me aconsejó que siguiera en la empresa y buscara capacitarme para incursionar en el área de banca personal y, luego, en la asesoría financiera.

Desde el primer día, recibí mucho apoyo de los jefes y de mis compañeros. Y eso ha sido una de las principales cosas que me ha llevado hasta donde estoy ahora.

¿Aparte del almuerzo? Mi momento preferido del día… Mi momento preferido del día es cuando todo el equipo se reúne en la mañana antes de que abra la sucursal. Hablamos de los últimos eventos, algún nuevo producto… de todo, pues. Y empezamos nuestra jornada como un solo y mismo equipo.

Retribuimos a la comunidad de muchas maneras. Patrocinamos a muchos organismos benéficos. Organizamos caminatas y maratones. Siempre estamos recaudando fondos, ya sea con ventas de comida o de libros, o auspiciando un equipo local de fútbol o hockey. Participamos constantemente en la vida comunitaria.

Estoy muy contento de formar parte del comité multicultural de Scotiabank, sobre todo porque esto me brinda la oportunidad de representar con orgullo a mi comunidad. Muchos de mis familiares y amigos son ahora clientes de Scotiabank por recomendación mía y están muy satisfechos de los servicios del Banco, y no solo porque yo trabajo aquí, sino porque realmente somos una excelente institución.

Meet Henri

I'd have to say the most satisfying thing about my job is definitely making a difference in people's lives.

My names Henri Miller. I'm a Senior Financial Advisor working at Scotiabank. As a Senior Financial Advisor, I'm in charge of around about 550 to 600 clients. I look after their needs and any of their requirements in terms of banking.

These clients are considered the higher net-worth clients. I deal with all aspects of their life using the four cornerstones of Scotiabank. So I'm looking at their investments, I'm looking at their credit, their day-to-day banking, and their insurance needs. Making sure these are all met and looking for opportunities to essentially improve their life and make them financially better off.

Typical day in my job is we come in at 8:30am and we usually will look through our agenda, see what happened yesterday, what weve got coming in for today.

I would say probably 50% of my day is involved in face to face with the customer. The other 50% of the day is paperwork processing - because you know a mortgage file or something like a RSP investment portfolio takes a long time to put together. So you've got to spend the time to do the paperwork as well as the interaction.

The day never really stops, there's always something to be doing.

To be honest, if I had to choose one thing that I really, really, like about this job is - it has got to be the teamwork and the team dynamics within a Scotiabank branch.

We all do rely on each other, we do all look out for each other, and often a scenario's going to happen in the branch where you're looking at high pressure, last minute scenario happening... everything needs to be done and you need support.

You can't possibly do this problem or whatever, on your own. So the team is always there to help you out.

We have a motto here at Scotia - One Team, One Goal. We're always looking to benefit the customer and make everybody as financially better off as possible and we're always trying to help them.

If the people you work with really make you like coming to work, and really find it enjoyable place to work, then what else could you ask for in a job to be honest?

Meet Henri

L’aspect le plus gratifiant de mon travail est certainement le fait que je puisse contribuer à la réalisation de certains changements dans la vie des clients.

Je m’appelle Henri Mongeau. Je suis conseiller principal en finances personnelles à la Banque Scotia. À ce titre, je m’occupe de 550 à 600 clients. Je vois à répondre à leurs besoins financiers et à toutes leurs exigences bancaires.

À l’aide des quatre pierres angulaires de la Banque Scotia, je tiens compte des différents aspects de la vie de ces clients, qui sont considérés comme ayant un avoir net supérieur. Je m’occupe donc de leurs placements, de leurs emprunts, de leurs opérations bancaires courantes et de leurs besoins en matière d’assurance. Essentiellement, mon rôle consiste à m’assurer de satisfaire l’ensemble de leurs besoins et à surveiller les occasions d’améliorer tant leur situation personnelle que leurs finances.

Une journée ordinaire de travail pour moi commence à 8 h 30; nous passons alors habituellement en revue l’agenda pour prendre connaissance des événements de la veille et de ce qui nous attend durant la journée.

J’estime que mes rencontres individuelles avec les clients prennent environ la moitié de mon temps. L’autre moitié consiste à traiter la documentation – car un certain temps est requis pour établir un dossier hypothécaire ou un portefeuille de placements RER, par exemple. Ainsi, il faut partager son temps entre les travaux d’écritures et les interactions.

Il y a très peu de répit dans une journée, nous avons beaucoup à faire.

Honnêtement, ce que j’aime vraiment dans mon travail c’est l’esprit d’équipe et la dynamique qui existent au sein d’une succursale de la Banque Scotia.

Nous pouvons compter les uns sur les autres et nous nous entraidons. En fait, il arrive souvent qu’un événement de dernière minute et de nature délicate survienne en succursale et que l’on ait besoin de soutien pour accomplir une tâche.

Il est parfois impossible de résoudre un problème ou de régler une question quelconque sans aide. C’est pourquoi les membres de l’équipe sont toujours prêts à donner un coup de main.

À la Banque Scotia, notre devise est «Une équipe…un même objectif». Nous veillons constamment à accorder la priorité aux clients, à améliorer le plus possible leur situation financière et à leur prêter main-forte.

Definitivamente lo más satisfactorio sobre mi trabajo es marcar la diferencia en la vida de mis clientes.

Mi nombre es Henri Miller. Ocupo el cargo de Oficial Sénior de Banca Personal en Scotiabank. En este puesto estoy a cargo de las cuentas de 550 a 600 clientes aproximadamente. Trato de satisfacer sus necesidades y atender sus requerimientos en términos de servicios bancarios.

Se trata de clientes con alto valor patrimonial y atiendo todos los aspectos de su vida utilizando los Cuatro Pilares de Scotiabank. Es decir que atiendo sus necesidades de inversión, crédito, operaciones bancarias cotidianas y seguros. Además, debo asegurarme de que se satisfacen todas sus necesidades y de buscar oportunidades para mejorar su vida y situación financiera.

En un día típico en el trabajo comenzamos a las 8:30 a.m. consultando nuestra agenda para ver las actividades realizadas el día anterior y las actividades programadas para el día en curso.

Diría que probablemente el 50% de mi tiempo diario está dedicado a atender personalmente a los clientes. El resto del tiempo lo dedico al trabajo administrativo, porque se necesita bastante tiempo para completar un archivo de hipoteca o una cartera de un plan de ahorros para el retiro. Así, hay que dividir el tiempo entre el papeleo y la interacción con el cliente.

El trabajo nunca para, siempre hay algo por hacer.

Sinceramente, lo que verdaderamente me gusta sobre mi empleo es el trabajo y la dinámica de equipo en la sucursal de Scotiabank.

Todos nos ayudamos mutuamente. A menudo puede presentarse un asunto urgente que debe resolverse rápidamente y para el cual necesitamos ayuda.

No siempre es posible resolverlo por sí mismo, sin embargo, el equipo siempre está atento para prestar ayuda.
