Awards and Recognition

Scotiabank received a number of important awards and other recognition for its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, including efforts in several countries related to diversity, equality, community involvement and the environment. Here are a few examples:

  • Scotiabank was recognized with the 2012 Philanthropy Award in the category of Outstanding Corporation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Greater Toronto Chapter). The annual awards celebrate individuals, groups, foundations and corporations for their contributions of time, leadership and financial support, and who set benchmarks of excellence in giving and volunteering.
  • Scotiabank was very proud to be named one of 10 Canadian Outstanding Employers by The Learning Partnership of Canada in 2012. The inaugural awards program recognizes employers for their exemplary commitment to students and education. The awards are an extension of the national charitable organization's 17-year-old Take Our Kids to Work program and recognize companies for Take Our Kids to Work day programs that engage and inspire Grade nine students who are visiting their workplace.
  • For 2012, Scotiabank was listed as one of the Best Workplaces in Canada-Large and Multinational- by the Great Place to Work® Institute. Scotiabank was also acknowledged by the Institute as one of the 50 Best Multinational Companies to Work for in eight countries in Latin America- Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Puerto Rico.
  • Global Finance magazine recognized Scotiabank as the World's Best Internet Bank (Best Consumer Internet Bank) in 19 Caribbean countries in 2012.
  • Scotiabank has once again been named one of Canada's Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations 2012 by Maclean's magazine, for being the largest international microfinance network among Canadian banks, and the first Canadian bank to adopt a global HIV-AIDS strategy to fight discrimination and promote public awareness.
  • Scotiabank received a Community Mentor Award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada for the Bank's outstanding support of agencies in Atlantic Canada in 2012. Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in the Atlantic region nominated Scotiabank in recognition of its long-term support of mentoring programs for children.
  • Scotiabank Peru was awarded with the Empresa Socialmente Responsible 2012 (Socially Responsible Company) by Asociacion Peru. Scotiabank Peru is the only banking institution that has received this distinction. The award recognizes Scotiabank's efforts to meet proposed standards for measuring its ongoing compliance with corporate social responsibility practices.
  • In 2012, Scotiabank was once again named one of the world's 50 safest banks by Global Finance magazine in a half-yearly ranking update, which is a recognized and trusted standard of creditworthiness for the entire financial world. The Bank ranked 14th on the global list, and 3rd in North America.
  • For the fifth year in a row, Scotiabank Mexico received the Corporately Responsible Company award by CEMEFI, an organization dedicated to promoting philanthropy and social responsibility in Mexico.
